Ed was so scared of Nigel! He avoided the “would you debate Nigel” 3 times and was just highlighting TV debates. No wonder UKIP beat Labour in the European elections! Just a shame he left and Labour are getting popular under Corbyn now

Australia has a closed door policy, incredibly difficult to become a citizen there. It's working great for them, they have some of the highest quality of life and GDP per capita. Proof that immigration does not make a nation better.

"Proof that immigration does not make a nation better." I'm ABSOLUTELY POSSITIVE that the Aboriginal people think the same thing about the Brits and their convicts that went there. Good example country you picked.

  • @Itsmeeman1

My point is more than valid. We Brits didn't make anything better for the Abos then nor now in the 21st C anymore than we did for the local American tribes. Mass immigration ruins nation's natural state of being. Historical fact and current tragedy of Western Foreign Policy.

Itsmeeman1 Indeed, and your solution undoubtedly is to right a wrong with a wrong, by flooding 1st rate countries with 3rd rate people. Sort of like raping a rapist's children and calling it right. A country is made by the people in it. If a country loses its people, the country ceases to exist. I think you will find that it was wealthy families, aristocrats and government types that sent slaves to Australia, and not British citizens. It was British citizens who were sent there unwillingly, afterall. Now wealthy FTSE 100 businesses, politicians and socialist types are flooding us with immigrants, pretending that it's good for us and at the same time saying we deserve this because their predecessors did god awful stuff to other countries.

What an opening, well done Nigel. This is exactly what I have been so angry about for a very long time. A party finally comes along to challenge the top 3 and the media does it's best to shut it down. I'm sick of the media trying to destroy democracy in this country. I'm sick of them facilitating this stale state of politics.

Farage seems to have a skill of tying people up in knots by saying one or two sentences and then they stumble over their next question.

'If we’d sat here 40 years ago, having this conversation, your point [on the need for laws preventing racial discrimination in the jobs market] would probably have been valid. I don’t think it is today' - Nigel Farage He would also 'get rid of' much of the discrimination laws in existence. Young people from ethnic minority backgrounds who have been jobless for more than a year: Up 49% since the last general election His plan is to scrap racial discrimination legislation because it's no longer necessary. This legislation forbids discrimination based on: - age - being or becoming a transsexual person - being married or in a civil partnership - being pregnant or having a child - disability - race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin - religion, belief or lack of religion/belief - sex - sexual orientation He also defended the use of the word 'chinky' when referring to a Chinese woman with the analogy of Chinese takeaway food. Now his party: Bill Etheridge, MEP for West Midlands: 'Hitler achieved a great deal' Godfrey Bloom, former MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber: recipients of foreign aid are from 'Bongo Bongo land' Godfrey Bloom again: 'Is it fair . . . [if someone has] contributed nothing to the national exchequer at all and maybe never will, [and] they get one vote' Matthew Richardson, General Secretary: referred to the NHS as 'the Reichstag bunker of socialism' which wrongly provides 'shemales' with the means to become 'born-again virgins' Misty Thackeray, Chair of Scottish UKIP: former member of the EDL Christopher Monckton, former Deputy Party Leader: 'short, miserable lives and high death rate of homosexuals', homosexuals have up to '20,000' partners in relationships that last 'a few hours' Janice Atkinson, suspended MEP for the South East of England: Asian resident and business owner a 'ting tong from somewhere' (stated in February 2015, suspended in March for financial issues) Stuart Agnew, current MEP for the East of England: cutting carbon emissions is dangerous due to the fact that plants need carbon dioxide to grow And that's just a short list.

University is a terrible place for debate. I was doing an engineering degree, but I took a permanent leave of absence, not just because it's a terrible place to learn (Albeit there are some awesome lecturers), but because it's jam packed with people doing quack degrees. One thing that peeves me off so much, is that there are a huge number of engineers and scientists that are man-made climate change sceptics, even in my old uni. And yet students think you're a crackpot if you're a sceptic. The worst thing is, I actually love the idea of clean, independent energy, but not because I think the world will end next year. There's plenty of lecturers and academic types voting for UKIP, don't let the press mislead you.

Every time you see Farage debating with any BBC, Sky, Channel 4, Channel 5 etc. interviewer and with the likes of Miliband, Clegg, it reminds me when Kennedy grilled Nixon in 1960. He just absolutely tears into them with hard facts from factual sources and makes his opponents look like they've fell flat on their face in a busy town centre. He has that kind of power, and when Cameron decides (if ever he accepts) to go head-to-head with Farage, he'd better pay his Washington DC assistants and "mentors" a pretty penny to advise him on how to deal with tough opposition in live debates. But, Cameron is weak in this area, if he can barely better Glegg and Miliband then he has no chance whatsoever against Nigel Farage. Vote UKIP!

People must dismantle the Beeb's crude smear campaign as well. It is the one thing that is holding UKIP back some of general public are fooled by it and are scared of voting them as they feel racist or far right. Little do they know how the conservatives are probably more right than UKIP are and also Labour are no better just an overly londoncentric party constantly caught in expenses scandals, their priorities completely fucked up with highly unsustainable policies on the economy, immigration and the NHS. Schools and Hospitals will eventually fall apart. Schools will begin to have 150 students per teacher.

Danny Boy Plenty of northerners voted Thatcher, my uncle voted Thatcher. You don't win three elections without having a broad appeal. I really don't understand the vitriol she gets. Whenever I ask why people hate her they either say; she introduced the poll tax (which wasn't her policy and still exists today in the form of council tax) or she ruined northern industry (which again is nonsense); the unions and the labour party ruined northern industry. They made it globally uncompetitive by vastly increasing the cost of production. She had a choice; subsidise this industry via the taxpayer, which I believe is unfair, or remove the protections. She chose the latter. Heavy industry is being stepped on at the moment by the Climate Change Act; yet the same people who hate Margaret Thatcher for ruining northern industry will say that the Climate Change Act is a good thing.

Nigel Farage is someone who is needed in the national conversation. His views about unchecked immigration hurting the economy and national pride of the UK are valid. However, the British public do not have a measure of his views on economics which are always the most important for any country. His flat tax, defunding of the NHS and significantly cutting taxes for the top 10 percent are policies the British public will over whelmingly reject

Like George Galloway, Nigel Farage is a pain in the arse for the established chinless wonders we have running the show, I like this sort of pain in the arse!

Molly Medcalf I am afraid that I cannot answer your first question since I am not a medical man. As a matter of fact, I have quite recently researched fox hunting. The law of nature is quite cruel. I can assure you that the way most carnivores kill and eat their prey is no less cruel than fox hunting. Carnivores such as lions and leopards do sometimes kill pups in front of their mothers. Killing in such a brutal manner is a part of nature. Your argument can actually be extended to many other parts of the way of life civilisation has produced. One may also talk about the treatment of farm animals and the purpose of keeping all sorts of livestock. I hope that you can understand that we as human being are a part of nature. It is natural for some of us to enjoy sports like hunting which involves the tracking, chase, and sometimes killing of a fox. If you don't enjoy it, don't do it. But you need not take away the liberty of others to do so simply because of your personal view on the subject.

Andy Armstrong Yes. They are all afraid. Nigel is just far too tough and far too well informed. In a debate Cameron would say "I don't know how many/how much we have or have spent or will save" etc. Nigel will tell him exactly how much. Nigel knows more about what the Cameron gov't has done than Cameron himself. I think also it is easier to win a debate when you haven't been lying for years. Nuff said on that topic. Miliband is nothing more than a coached generalist. His training is how to avoid answering questions, and how to avoid saying anything meaningful or specific. Nigel would kill him.

Andy Armstrong I am not in the UK, but the media is completely biased to the Dave versus Ed story from what I can see. What is so sad is that once an a long time you get a worthy leader. This is such a rare event. Here is a guy who has the intelligence and guts and charisma to tell the truth, propose viable policies and he is vilified. It tells us what a sad state our media is in, and our cultures. Even in these forums the level of sophistication in debate is below minimal.

What Miliband should be saying in response to the question "Would you debate with Nigel Farage?" is "Yes, I would and furthermore I'd wipe the floor with him" The fact that he deflects the question shows him in a very negative light. It confirms him as just another politician without a straigt answer to give, and also suggests to the viewer that he actually couldn't debate Farage, because his arguments on Europe are weak, and broadly wrong.
