i knew the chelsea well, and i knew jobriath very briefly in LA, they both are iconic souls that live forever in their joy of life.

It’s funny how Jobriath went from super glammed and looking like an alien, to looking like a high glass gentleman. It’s super awesome 😎. Wish him and along of other gifted people didn’t die or AIDS 😞

Makes me wonder how many amazing songs, plays, and movies are coming out of talented people every day that never see daylight because of whatever dumb reason. The person can't sell it, can't get discovered. When Jobriath died, his own father destroyed most of his remaining work. Shameful...

It's amazing how they got the grand piano into the pyramid room on top of the Chelsea Hotel. I'm guessing they used a crane as the stairs and lifts were out of the question. RIP Jobriath a very brave and overlooked artist who I too became aware of in the early 70s thanks to David Bowie.

Jobriath looks like he was a really nice guy.

Alphaeus Philemon Cole lived another 8 years after this...outliving Jobriath by 6 years.

Not a SINGLE WORD of "Naked Lunch" was written in America, no less The Chelsea Hotel. It was composed in Tanger at the time it was considered an International Zone (from where we get "INTERZONE"). What a dreadful guide-- he probably thinks, "Ah, these hicks from the sticks won't know the difference." He apparently was correct.

Panna Grady, a rich heiress and a groupie of underground poets and writers, once took Burroughs to meet Warhol for dinner. They went to a Chinese restaurant, where Burroughs was offended by the manners of those in Warhol’s entourage. Burroughs walked out. This lunch was probably held some time after Panna Grady's dinner and on hearing Warhol was trying to invite someone he knew to come and join them was probably more than Burrough's could bear. 😆

Alphaeus Cole, followed by a guy who at that time went by "Cole Berlin," singing a song whose lyrics include "naked lunch," followed by a meal involving the guy who wrote "Naked Lunch." I wonder if that juxtaposition was intentional.

He died alone at 36 years old from AIDS on August 5th, 1983. He was one of the first musicians to die from the disease. His music was sampled in hip-hop like songs noreaga built pyramids, Jay Teə Adam$ Dark Nightmarez and ill Bill starship

Jumaine Adams As a business man, first and foremost, of course he’d say that. He can’t be blamed, considering the financial losses Jobriath causes their business, not that he should be blamed, from what I understand of the situation... I don’t know how far from breaking even they were by the time Jobriath was dropped from the label, but it’s also not like he was anywhere close to bringing the record company down, as some other artists have basically single handedly done. Anyway, ROI and bottom lines aside, I don’t think it was a mistake. As far as art goes, I think there’s a net gain from his contributions, though one certainly can’t argue that quantitatively. I get it, record executives aren’t even remotely interested in art for its own sake, or really any of the social or cultural dimensions of art, unless that art is a cultural sensation that lines their pockets; that’s business, that’s fine. Thankfully, for beauties sake, let alone art, it isn’t valued in the long run per the monetary value that coincided with its creation. In fact, it seems that quite often the exact opposite is the case, whether we’re talking music, painting, poetry, novels, fashion, or any other media. I’m not saying that’s the norm, just that it’s often the case.. but I digress.. ✌️

Because he thought the small world he was living in that was very liberal was the entirety of America and the world and the world did not want to hear about anyone being gay. If you're in the entertainment industry you have to have base consideration to get glittering rewards. So him not understanding that combined with his idiotic manager hyping him up without anyone seeing him perform instead of releasing an album and letting it build word of mouth and hitting the marketing machine on the second album led him to being a bust. Resented by the press and no one to defend him. He ended up living with his mom who kicked him out for not having a job and ended up turning gay tricks which probably led to him being exposed to HIV. You should probably watch Jobriath AD if you really care

I have a Penthouse magazine issue from may of 1974 with an article about Jobraith and his manager Jerry Brandt. It is about a page and a half long, and it's a pretty interesting read. It is not an "ad" but nonetheless a cool little bio and description about the inside business aspects and marketing side of this fascinating and brilliant man.

If the latter then theres always a first time for everything I suppose...but then I suppose that's a bit of a cruel thing to say, I just had a Jobriath pyramid moment where this things just come to me...nice little bit of Warhol affectation with the headphones, but then he does look pleased to be there and being the ultimate tourist of the famous...Burroughs just looks bored.

For Jobi I would say he didn't die of AIDS, he died from Tylenol compromising the hear and mucus components of his body's defense system. That was all he had left. He just wanted to keep writing music and that Tylenol/cold-flu remedies were more dangerous than the HIV ravaging his body. Connecting his spirit to that area of the pyramid allowed him to communicate that to me
