BBC 3 Proms.- Martin Amis.- The zone of interest

Ғылым және технология

Novelist and essayist Martin Amis discusses 'The Zone of Interest', his 14th novel, in which he revisits the Holocaust for the first time since his controversial book, 'Time's Arrow'. He'll be talking to Philip Dodd about his use of language in writing about the death camps, a writer's relationship with his characters, why he wanted to explore how what one of his characters describes as 'a sleepy country of poets and dreamers, the most highly educated nation the earth has ever seen' yielded to 'such wild, such fantastic disgrace' and why novelists of his generation seem to be drawn to write about the Second World War.

Taxi for Philip Dodd, please. - Amis as fascinating, charming, exuberantly eloquent as ever. our finest living writer, by some way. his non-fiction occasionally surpasses his fiction, which is saying something. thanks for posting.

Weirdo, pseudo-intellectual interviewer: "Listen, you're a writer, I would have thought you've understood the difference between careless and care-less". Good for Amis to keep his cool with such a fool as interviewer.

God, the interviewer is quite appalling. Couldn't he just shut up and let Martin speak?

The interviewer is really annoying - he tries to put his ego in front - he is supposed to ask questions, not butt in and lecture everyone for gods sake - he needs to learn how to listen and learn his job ,before making a fool of himself- he insults Amis ,and is so patronising.
