    Hi Katie. :) I bought fluorocarbons for my tenor because the same type of strings are on my Enya Nova and they are easier to play. I have been practising AED chord transition patterns, E chords have been my nemesis. I prefer to play E without barring, by using the 1/2/4 frets on three strings. Brian May has been doing a lot of little isolation guitar videos lately, much to everyone’s happiness. My tenor has a through body bridge... not sure your video covered that type (?) Take care and stay healthy :):)❤️

    I know what you mean about the E chord. Whenever I teach my students the E chord in my large group classes, I hear a couple of expletives 😂. I did make a video about how to play E 5 different ways, so let me n ow if you’d like to to link it for you. I didn’t know Brian was making isolation videos!!!! Oh my gosh! I need to see those 😀. We’re doing well. We’re not going anywhere and we don’t plan to. I hope things are well with you.

    One Music School I’ll see if I can find that E chord video. :) I find the way I am currently playing it is a good stretch for the fingers but not too bad, especially on a concert scale ukulele. I play it on the second section ( chord change ) to Why Did It Have To Be Me... a fun ABBA song. Yes, Check out Brian May’s KZread channel ... he is as humble as he is talented. :) Kind of like you, actually. :)

    My first finger is short on the 1st joint and my middle finger on the C string is wide (so muffles the A string) and if I roll it to its tip on the C, the tip of it my first finger can’t hold down the A/E bar as tightly, so then they mute. But if my middle finger is on the tip, I can reach the third fret on the G okay. So it’s a teeter totter on those first two fingers. Then my thumb is almost behind the a/e and I push my elbow out but strains my wrist. I don’t have a callus on my first finger and it won’t roll over like you show. Maybe this chord takes a long time to be strong enough in my hand and wrist with short fingers. I don’t know. But thanks for the step by step.

    Bb and E are two of my least favourite chords. I like the Bb variant that uses the "G" shape. If the Bb is coming after a G as I am already there. I just have to move it up to the 5th fret depending on the song.

    You are showing that we don't have to keep the thumb on the back of the neck! And as for chords like D, I run out of room using the first 3 fingers, I can use the M, R,and pinky, or the M on on the 4th and 3rd and R on the 2nd, which would you suggest? Thanks. Ted.

    Such a great question. It truly is a buyers market, so you will have lots to choose from that won’t break the bank. I have a couple of videos that might help. One is a buyers guide for beginners and the other is how to upgrade. The upgrade video you might find interesting to find out why some ukes are more expensive than others. Not that you’d be looking for a uke that’s $500, but it might be insightful or find it interesting. Grab a snack. They’re a bit long 😂😂.

    When I play the 3rd and 4th string alone it sounds great. As soon as the third finger comes in, the bottom two strings sound mute again. I've put more/less pressure on and nothing solves it. Placement on the fret is good. Do you please have a suggestion for this?

    Thank you for this. I'm a new beginner (1 month of practising almost daily), and you mentioned the strings. I had heard about putting Low G strings on; wondering if you know that would be a good idea. I have a very low singing voice and maybe it would sound "deeper" and sound nice together? I have a Concert size. Much thanks for any advice.

    Don’t give up. I know you can do it. Sometimes, these things take time. Barre chords can be really frustrating at first, but just focus on your progress and not perfection. Keep trying, keep playing, and keep growing. It’s ok if it doesn’t come easily. For most people, this chord doesn’t come easily, so you’re not alone.

  • @OneMusicSchool

    @OneMusicSchool

    Hmmmm. That’s a tough one because I physically can’t see how you’re holding your instrument to help you tweak things here and there. I would try the push/pull motion to take the pressure off of your fingers more and use your larger muscles and try to move your fingers as close to the frets as possible. If you find yourself playing and you hear muffled strings, try to figure out which string it is exactly and make small adjustments from there. You have to lift a part of your finger out of the way or move a finger closer to the fret. Another way to work on the Bb in the meantime without the barre is to place your fingers in the normal Bb position but lightly touch the A string with the pad of your index finger. That will mute the string, and you’ll be playing X123 instead of 1123. It still forms the Bb triad, but it just doesn’t have the A string Bb note. I hope that helps. You can do it! I believe in you!
