In fairness to Janina San Miguel she is very beautiful. In the international pageant, the first that is being noticed is not whether the contestants speaks English well or not. It is always the beauty and elegance that brings a candidate to the top 15 and if good luck gets along, to the top 5. For Janina San Miguel, she could have fared well in the Miss World pageant had she not backed out. Her beauty and elegance is captivating.!

Yes in beauty pagaent in general physical beauty is the ticket to make it, but in the end if you don't know how to speak or shall we say if you're not intelligent enough then you will not win specially nowadays where beauty pagaents focuses more on the candidate's intelligence and causes. Judges were either on crack or bribed or perhaps a bunch of morons for overlooking her obvious flaw. I’m hindsight, this was the period when PH were mediocre at best internationally and statistically wouldn’t have been a front runner nor taken home the crown

But Janina also pissed off a lot of people due to unprofessionalism including her superiors and first runner-up Danielle Castano during training and had to resign due to personal reasons when her grandfather died.

the two runners up are more deserving to get a crown, Danielle Castano and Elizabeth Nacuspag could have been a strong and great representative of the Philippines internationally that year.

Ron Moreno 2010 was the last year GMA hosted Bb. Pilipinas before the pageant reshuffle in 2011 saw ABS-CBN took over BPCI and saw GMA have Miss World Philippines. Both of them have a lot of success since.

not only venus raj. ruffa gutierrez, charlene gonzales also won BBP while it was on GMA. Both pageants were held in 1993 though. One in the earliest months which BBP '93, and in October, BBP '94.

Good for Janina. She did not melt down and stayed poised and confident- that was a big plus.. Her only mistake was talking in English- her handlers' mistake and the pageant's sponsor mistake. They should have known that some contestants did not speak much English. The judges correctly interpreted that this was a program format mistake. The question should had been asked in Tagalog if they did their homework about the abilities of each contestant.

Nakakamiss yung panahon na isang pageant lang yung panggagalingan ng lahat 😆 medyo napagtanto ko na alphabetical pala ang announcement ng mga nanalo para matanggal bias (at the same time ma-boost ang Miss World). Pero syempre, Miss Universe ang inaabangan. Looking back, dapat si Janina pinagbigyan natin. 18 pa lang sya nun! Tayo ba nung 18 eh kasing-articulate na ng isang lawyer na 25 years old? Kung may Supra o MGI na siguro nun, namayagpag si Janina.

Anong GMA ang Miss World? Sa BPCI ang franchise ng MWP hindi sa GMA. lol Anyway, sorry to burst your bubble but the new Miss World Philippines' production is waaaaay better than Binibining Pilipinas. Parang napaglumaan na ang style ng pageant ni Madam Stella. I am so glad MUP break their ties with BPCI. Look at Miss Universe Thailand and Vietnam, mas maganda pa ang staging than the recent Miss Universe in Atlanta. Ganong production ang gusto kung makita na wala sa BPCI.

@@whaianne But you can't deny Binibining Pilipinas' title success under ABS-CBN as a regular host where they won four, two each in Universe and International, between 2011 and 2019. GMA has done a better job with the stand alone Miss World Philippines than with Binibining Pilipinas.

Siguro if Joined when she was in her early 20s and na train ang comm skills, she would do well sa intl pageants.. her comm skills is her weakness but at her age 17, she has the best stage presence, and most beautiful face and body in her batch..both bb international and bb universe that year we’re not even noticed sa mga pageants nila..

I would've taken Danielle Castano, despite being only 18 at that time, or Elizabeth Nacuspag as BBP-World 2008. The Binibining Pilipinas Class of 2008 had seven girls age 19 or younger (Toni Hipolito, Castano, Arvin Gail Arriola, Jaysel Arrozal, Tabetha Jo Frick, Janina and Patricia Francisco)

Brain does not mean you are good in English. Some inventors were not good in English. Some may be good in English pero walang sense ang sinasabi. Mayron naman hindi magaling mag-English pero may sense ang sinasabi. Marami hindi marunong mag-English pero successful ang buhay. Ang talino ay hindi sa galing ng pagsasalita ng English. Actually, the Philippines won two Big Four crowns in the 2000s decade: Precious Lara Quigaman helped the Pearl of the Orient break a 26-year drought with her Miss International 2005 crown and Karla Paula Henry helped the Philippines win their first ever Miss Earth title in 2008.

+Troy Wright It seemed to me that the judges, despite knocking her Q and A portion score, gave Janina San Miguel to prove herself that she is the one representing the Philippines in Miss World 2008. Unfortunately, Janina resigned as Binibining Pilipinas-World 2008 due to personal reasons when her grandfather died and also speculation that she was unprofessional during her training sessions. That was 2 and a half months before MW 2008 in South Africa.

The only true winner from the Binibining Pilipinas 2008 batch is Karla Paula Henry who helped the Philippines moved closer towards completing their Big Four cycle with her Miss Earth 2008 title.

thamtham gimena baka sa time na yan kung saan clappers lang lahat ng nananalo sa bbp. Miss Universe talaga ang pinaka the best. Yung miss world parang wala lang.. joke time..

@@steffiglam5182 No. Before talagang last ang Universe. They want to show na equal yong 3 titles so World na ang hinuli nila. There was even a time na sabay sabay ang pag announce. Pero for the longeat time Universe ang pinaka finale nila.

Three crowns are equal in prestige and announced in alphabetical order. Universe is highest except if underage she will be sent in miss world. These days different na criteria for universe and world so they have separate pageants

Nkakatawa how they crown the winners compare from now. Jusko pati mga contestant nkakatawa. Ung crown ung lalaki nag papatong ung sash baliktad nag ccrown ng nsa likod at ang miss u crown 2 to the last. But look at now. So funished so smooth at lahat ng candidate palaban dto parang kinuha lng kung saan saan

Pinakamaraming kandidata ang Miss World aabot pa ng 130 di gaya ng Miss Universe mo na sa Pinas lang sikat at may 80 lang na kandidata Hindi prestigious ang miss Universe Walang trabaho after winning No charities No Advocacy Para lang silang mga pokpok na naglalandian sa swimsuit competition Di gaya sa Miss World na naglilikom ng milyon2x na dollars para sa mga charities, hospitals at calamities victims No swimsuit competition Dahil itinataas nila sa ang highest digdinad ang candidata Ang masama at masagwa pa eh tumatanggap ng mga kandidata na bakla ang Miss universe WAHAHAHAHA

Baliw! Pambarangay lang utak mo Hahahh Kaya nanalo si Janina ng pinakamataas na score sa BB. Pilipinas dahil Panalo na sya sa mga major awards Best in Swimsuit at Best in Long Gown sya Bale tag 30% yon sa criteria ng pageant Kaya may pundo na sya ng 60% sa score

Kase ang world ang na una sa universe in terms of pageantry... Sila talaga yun then sumunod na year ang miss universe naman... So miss world is older than miss u

Maria Teresa P Cortes Answer from the heart...without any sense. BTW, Janina was way ahead in the beauty aspects including swimsuit and long gown. However, Janina buckled under the pressure during training for MW 2008 and had to resign due to personal reasons.
