Bayhorse Ghost town , Idaho
Join us on exploring the Mining and ghost towns of Idaho .
Bayhorse is an abandoned ghost town in Custer county Idaho . Bay horse is known for its silver and gold production.
This well preserved ghost town is like taking a step back in time.
You don’t need a Jeep to get to the town itself but it’s advisable to have a good off road four wheel drive vehicle with good tires if you want to continue your adventure past the town site.

Been there many times. Parents live close by. Do love it there.
My Grandfather, William E Sullivan was the 1st white boy born at Bayhorse on Dec 18, 1887. There were 2 white girls but no boys and mostly Indians, Chinese and single miners. My Great Grandfather ran a Pub while my Great Grandmother ran a boarding house. My Grandfather was run over by a run-away team (when he was 2) and there happened to be a priest travelling through that baptized him in his own blood (thinking that he would not live with amount of blood that he had lost from the wound in his head). When the run-away team ran over him the kin-pin struck him in the head. But he lived to take care of the Indian cemetery as well as the other cemeteries. He died in 1973 and then my uncle took over caring for the cemeteries until he died in 2000. Now you can't even find the Indian cemetery. And with the work that the BLM has done up there the road has changed somewhat. I still love it up there, it is just as beautiful as it ever was.

I landed my small plane on the nearby peak, that oddly enough is comprised of pretty smooth gravel, unlike most of the rocky peaks in the area, just shy of 10 K I seem to recall. I know 4 wheelers (ATV's) access it, I just had 3.
3:50 I’m guessing John Hancock had something to do with it.
