Μάλιστα θα της αφήσει και ένα ημερολόγιο του Ιμπραήμ και θα πει η φατμά στη χουριτζιχαν ότι είναι απ' τη θεία της την σαχ την οποία επισκέφτηκαν. Προφανώς η σαχ έμαθε ότι η χιουρεμ επέστρεψε, κρίμα που δεν είδαμε τα μούτρα της! Αφού αυτή είναι εξοριστη με αυτό το τρόπο βοηθάει τη φατμά και τη χουριτζιχαν.

But still, in some royal families it remained till the 20th century (as you know, Queen of GB Elizabeth 2 married her cousin; also king of Russian Empire Nicholas 2 was married to his cousin too)

Though Burcu (Hurichihan) doesn't Looks like Selma (Hatice) but her acting,her outfits,her hairstyles & her behavior resembles Hatice alot also Ibrahim, it's Burcu's debut show but still she did such a great job portraying it

The actress does such a good job of portraying similarities of behavior while the way in which she was styled certainly helps (a lot of Hatice's outfits are reused for her, which works perfectly within the narrative).

They didn't want to use their children as weapons against their enemies. Mahidevran in this series is the exception. Your forgetting Hafsa too btw. Afife already mentioned she was in tremendous grief when Selim the Grim passed, yet was resolute in supporting her son Suleiman and hiding her true feelings.

Its likely none considered of great importance, the show created alot of fake relationships (firuze, victoria, isabella) for drama. Their children would likely have been executed but there is no need for powerless concubines with no political power to be killed. Princes did not marry traditionally.

Agreed... i also thought Rumeysa was wasted... we had this long story of her sister looking for her, then finding her in Mustafas harrem, to Rumeysa deciding to stay in the harrem, and then her death🙄.... its like umm okay??? That was a lot of wasted time and a weird storyline but okay🤷‍♀️

Prince Mehmed married Esmahan Sultan (Shah's daughter) and had their daughter Hunasah Sultana who was raised by Mihrimah and became really powerful. She gifted Murad Safiye,because Humasah was an enemy of Nurbanu. However marrying or falling in love with a cousin is wrong in Islam. In the very early era of man it was appropriate because humanity needed more population. However later it became forbidden. Dont know which generation the ties of cousin or relatives break.

@@paolaa.calderonsanchez4666 It might have been influenced by that, honestly, but those marriages weren't overwhelming common amongst the Ottoman Empire. Şehzades weren't allowed to marry, while those that became sultans later tended to look within their own harem for spouses (with some exceptions but not in terms of cousin marriages). Even the female dynasty members were more regularly married off to statesmen and the like then their cousins. To be honest, the Ottoman Empire was kind of the exception of the time 🤷

@@masked8939 To be fair to them, the genetic issues aren't something they would have been aware of back then (see the Hapsburg dynasty for reference, oh boy). But, while this was common in other dynasties, it was actually somewhat skipped over in the Ottoman Empire from what I can tell? Most likely because the Ottomans didn't often use marriage as a way to bind political alliances, unlike their contemporaries.

You are right, the ottomans were different, as they were not taking their own relatives for spouses for centuries. That is one positive thing about the harrem system, that people seem to hate or dont understand..... no incestuous inbreeding 🤷‍♀️

One of not many uplifting moments in season 4. Anyway, I've seen some comments here mentioning that they are cousins, so shouldn't marry each other. I do wonder where the idea of cousins can't marry each other came from. I know there might be problems with bad genes getting more chances to appear, but I don't see anything socially wrong with that. It would be surely disgusting if they are siblings or halfsiblings, but only cousins are fine.

It’s just disgusting and marrying your cousin is prohibited in most of civilized countries in the world. In my country we treat cousins like siblings and we literally call them “brother” or “sister”. And yeah, bad genes are a big issue. Nobody wants sick children from illicit marriage. It’s more about protecting future offspring. Basically, here where I live, if you are in relationship with your cousin, you are considered as a pervert ;) I think history shows us perfectly why you shouldn’t marry your nearest relatives….
