Actually they're right, he is not a natural right back but a cdm. He played his whole youth and the beginning of his professional career at central positions. Only after the retirement of Lahm, Ancelotti put him at the right. In the national team as for Bayern, he played there just for 2 years, the rest of his youth and professional career was on central positions. Even though I think he is better on the right side.

League form is not always a reflection of how a team plays in the UCL. Bayern can still win this tie and it wouldn’t be a shock. The analysis on ESPN FC also explains why top EPL teams hire coaches from Spain, Italy, Germany etc. British soccer experts seem to lack basic soccer knowledge. 20 years ago player selection was really important, now teams only care about formation. Player selection of picking Dier means he will sit off and allow shots which means conceding goals. Kimich is brilliant but isnt he a centre mid. Laimer was amazing on the weekend and Goretzka is the best centre mid in the world up with Bellingham.
