Bay City Shovel Engine Painting and Installation | Caterpillar D4600
Ғылым және технология
The time has finally come! After a little winter project of “rebuilding” the Caterpillar D4600 in the 1941 Bay City model 45 shovel, it’s time to reinstall the engine. Follow along as we paint and install the old engine back in the machine.

Excellent video Sam! So many youtubers drag that much work into 4 or 5 videos. I was very happy to see her come to life in just one video. Job well done!

yeah, i wont watch Keith Rucker anymore for that reason...
Old Guys can get into all kinds of tight spots! It's getting up and out of them that are hard to do!
Great job Sam, amazing how fresh things look in the old engine bay with a fresh coat of yellow on the old donk. Good job mate, well done
50 plus years picking up stuff here and putting it over there. You about gave me a thrombosis when you had that thing almost slid in and then jumped to fast speed on the camera. I'm inclined to take everything slow and easy. Anyway, 10 fingers 10 toes. That's a win.
Sam have you seen or heard of Cutting Edge Engineering in Australia. The owner Kurtis has a Terex crane similar to yours but he is really going to town with the repairs on it. At the moment he has just about stripped it down. He's going to do a full refurb on it. Go see what he's up to also I think that you'll like to watch him.

She's alive!!!!
Hmmmm, thought I was the only one who still has and uses a quart compressed air spray gun. Smart move when you got and fixed Terex - real handy for your projects.

That motor looks really good. Can't see any bugs in the paint from here.

We just found out where fall colors come from, spray paint ing outside. And teachers have for generations told us cold weather causes fall colors. Thanks Sam for showing us. LOL
Fresh paint, Yummy!
You guys look like you know what you are doing 😊 Awesome
Great job Sam. It has been a long winding road but you did not let it beat you. Looking forward to seeing the shovel move some dirt. Johnny old guy in Texas
Great job. Please fix her up and keep it.
nice to see someone who knows how to torque bolts down, once you start turning, don't stop until you hear the 'click'.
Who would have thought that crane would have been so damn handy.
I really enjoy your video’s thanks for always bringing us along on your adventures. This one was pretty huge - has to feel good to get that motor done and in. Keep doing what you do, it’s appreciated. Thanks
HEY! Good morning Sam !
olson gaskets should be able to help you out with your head gasket problem. they will make you what you need from scratch. they were going to make me new ones when I was doing a pony swap on my D4600 in my #12 grader ended up finding a nos one. thanks for sharing keep up the good work.
Nice job Sam, looks like a family project, great to see you restore the machines that built America and Western Europe after the war. There should be funds are tax reductions to preserve these industrial momuments. Great job!
You can paint for me anyday!!!!!!! beautiful. Nice seein the family hangin out in that beautiful motorhome1! Well done.
Ask Squatch253 for a head gasket. He´s an old cat guru.
Sam, great video..between you and Matt, it's nice to see fellow western PA knuckle busters. Anyhow, I work in the power industry. If your rigging say that radiator...put a small chain fall in between it and the headache ball. This way you can fine tune your adjustment, by hand, without the jerkiness of the crane. Keep up the go work...Cya at Brownsville.

2:02 Just taking a little-big cat for a walk
Pinch yourself every time you think of the good decision getting that little crane, setting it up with remotes etc and you'll have a sore arm... cheers from NZ....
Great Job, Sam. I had a similar problem with an old 43 Cat Grader engine leaking like that and I know it’s against the mechanics law but, sorry, I popped the heads back off and smeared some copper silicone on the block and heads, it never leaked again 👍🏻😂. Just a thought, Ron
I spotted your fitting problem and your starting problem and yoir head gasket problem right from the get go. You painted it!
Hey sam taken up the tracks too
Ye ha! Great video!
Nice paint job! I'm sure you are familiar with Sherwin-Williams Polane. It works well for outside living metal things...
Wow it looks like your busier than C&C
Nice yellow chain...LOL!
The top fan belt pully tightens like a reeves drive variable speed pully works.
Instead of wasting more color try same paint but clear that way you can spray over different colors and it looks smashing 🤪😊 PS:you could try PSP which you can get at your local hardware store interior painters use to aich the surface before painting 😊😊
Well now that the bay city is done Sam , maybe a little video or two on the old Mack?
Didn't know it was the H.O. version
Great job but I am baffled that there isn't a generator. How does the battery get recharged?
Pressure up to high, on your spray gun
