Bawating Water Protectors Ottawa Press Conference June 27 2017

Bawating Water Protectors
Candace Day Neveau says “We are here in a peaceful ceremony, this is not a protest. We are exerting out inherent right and pro-liberating Indigenous peoples to take a stand and challenge the current Canadian mindset and educate how Indigenous people are feeling about Canada Day.
“They have all their tents set up behind us and it is apparently bureaucratic nonsense of why we can't put up the teepee on Parliament Hill. They put us in the corner in the entrance and have made a barricade for the teepee not to actually go on Parliament Hill. We are going to be stepping up and pushing them to let us on the Hill.”

    It amazes me how many people are offended by this. Considering the treatment of indigenous people from past to present, I think these speakers are actually being polite and restrained. If listening to someone express their outrage at the murder of their children offends you because you think they're being racist, then you are living proof that white fragility is a real phenomenon.

  • @natedognate616

    @natedognate616

    Cory Bartlett Because using one's brain rationally and realizing the arrogance and audacity of these racist, disrespectful, and outright stupid people is a sign of fragility ..? They hate white people. The people who are upset are the ones who fully realize that they have nothing to do with the suffering of native peoples, and realize that it is perfectly within their right to live in this country as Canadians. The only people who aren't upset with these people are those that have bought in to the guilt tripping, choosing to internalize the racism these people spew, and flagellate themselves for being white. Let's talk about native fragility... here are some current examples, -lady in this press conference yelling at a reporter because she doesn't think Trudeau is to blame for a native kid dying -Mikmaq in Halifax turning the flag upside down and writing 'decolonization' on it on canada day, when the very reason that flag looks the way it does is to represent departure from colonial history, and was ironically inspired by natives -breaking the law while trying to erect a teepee illegally on parliament hill, then getting butthurt about being arrested and claiming to be oppressed

  • @corybartlett9038

    @corybartlett9038

    7 жыл бұрын

    I agree it's not the most effective press conference I've ever seen, and mainly because the use of the term white immediately sets off a bunch of fragile people, making the debate about whiteness instead of colonisation. And of course all non-indigenous Canadians benefit from colonisation so using the term white is unnecessary. But if you actually watched that entire press conference and came away from it with nothing more then 'they hate white people' then it proves my point. The abuse of your fragile white ego is what matters most, not dead kids or a continuing genocide.

  • @natedognate616

    @natedognate616

    7 жыл бұрын

    Here's the thing. Being bothered by someone using another person's white skin colour as reason for carte blanche to excoriate them for asking an innocuous question, is not evidence of a "fragile white ego". Imagine if this native woman was protesting somewhere and a white person approached her and started yelling "go away native lady, you're not welcome here". You would call that racism. But, because the races are reversed, you're perfectly happy using your stupid tumblr lingo to describe why people don't like the way this woman is talking. You surf tumblr for hours, then come here and have nothing useful to contribute. The ironic thing is that you speak of fragility, but in reality it is people like you that are fragile for reacting so defensively to natives being racist to white people. You're perfectly comfortable in your little fantasy land that it's not possilbe for white people to be discriminated against (or specifically for natives to be racist against white people). The only valid argument to be had here is that this reporter asked a simple question, included a caveat that Trudeau can't be directly blamed for a person's murder/suicide, and was accosted for being white - but you're too scared to admit that, so you opt to reinforce this classic SJW delusion of white people not being allowed to have a valid opinion. You're so embroiled in attacking white people yourself, that you're completely failing to recognize that white people aren't dismissing other more important issues. The other more important issues are quite a different, and broader aspect to issues faced by indigenous people, compared to this very brief, specific incident. Being bothered with the arrogance, vitriol, and racist undertones of these women does not at all preclude people's ability for compassion or interest in native causes. But for some reason, SJWs like yourself tend to take it one step further and assume that it does preclude such things, and make grand, foolish claims about an entire race such as "white fragility". It's absolutely retarded on your part. It's not that people don't want what's best for these folks; we do, we all do. It's just that it's really hard to help someone who won't let you help them. If this press conference was arranged for any purpose it was to give these few people a forum to be seen and heard nationally. Internationally. Then in the same, pontificating rant that totally derails the press conference, this lady complains about not being visible? She was perfectly visible until she decided to go off on an emotional, grandiose, manic tirade that she thinks is getting her point across; let alone completely failing to respond to the (fairly) asked question. It's just mind boggling retarded. Absolutely mind boggling. What she should have done is made her point by explaining exactly what she thinks about the question itself; not what she thinks about white people. It's so ironic. She had the PERFECT opportunity to explain why she thinks Trudeau should be blamed and to explain whether she thinks Trudeau is better or worse than Harper. I'll fully admit it was a loaded question, but it was not disrespectful at all; it was simply coming from someone who doesn't understand how this person feels about the specific topic, and whose very job it is to obtain such understanding. If she just answered the question in an honest, concise and rational manner, it would have been another good step for the government to understand things better, and make change. Trudeau would have listened very carefully to what was said and would have tried very hard to understand. But she didn't do that. She is coming from the almost unfathomable position that Justin Trudeau, who was elected less than two years ago, is somehow responsible for all native people dying in unfortunate ways, just because he is prime minister. So instead of taking a breath, considering the context of the question and why it was asked, thinking of a response and answering it properly, she chose to derail the proceedings altogether. Even if she was angry when answering the question and not making it about white people, it would be fine because at least she would be accomplishing something productive. The only thing white people would have been upset with in those circumstances are the issues facing indigenous Canadians that were being discussed; instead of those things plus the fact that these people are acting totally ridiculous. And that's what they inevitably and rightfully received for it - ridicule.

    Holy shit, did you stay up all night writing that? Clearly you aren’t fragile at all, as this well written and rational post most vividly demonstrates. I definitely think you should mail all your suggestions to all the native people you want to help as you clearly know the exact best path forward for them. Obviously if they would just listen to your suggestions all of their problems would end. I agree with you, Trudeau isn’t at fault here. Yes he campaigned on implementing the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, only to immediately turn around and say that it was impossible to do so once he was elected, but he also put on a native headdress on TV so definitely he’s concerned about the native plight. As far as all the personal attacks on who I am, I applaud you for the excellent psychological analysis, of yourself. While we still actually know nothing of who I am, we know all about what makes you angry and the way you react to that anger, all triggered by the phrase ‘white fragility.’ Thanks for the laughs and do feel free to write another scroll whenever your obviously busy schedule allows for it.

Feel free to include more SJW tumblr conjectural jargon bullshit for me to rebuke, I'd really love it. You're not laughing at all, don't even kid yourself. Your method of arguing is childish and counterproductive. The ill conceived point you're trying to get across is that the opinions of all white Canadians deserve to be dismissed on the basis of race, and the way you're trying to get it across is through ad hominem and tumblrisms in a hypocritical way. I'm not laughing either, I just find it weird and disconcerting that a human could just be so damn stupid.

We may have different fathers but I consider myself 100%, they're sister as they feel about me I love them very much and as family go that makes me native American!! What hurts native Americans hurts me, this is a travesty!! Native Americans had their land stolen, their women and children raped and murdered and it's still going on now, I don't understand how native Americans were put on reservations basically saying... Here's a piece of land you can have it it's not very big but we're giving this to you what the hell is that?? The way I see it is keeping native Americans within a certain square footage and not protected by federal laws, saying okay you can have your own laws what they really meant was we're not here for you you don't matter!! African Americans were ripped away and stolen from their land, native Americans had their land stolen!!

We live on land where so many groups are being marginalized that it makes it really difficult to focus on everyone, but we have to, we have to focus on everyone, and that includes our indigenous family. However we are taught when an elder speaks you listen and if you disagree you speak with respect. Because they know things we don't . They lived along time and gave us life. .the reporter should've just been more patient and respectful. And though I'd never talk back to my elders. They should not have gotten so passionate about skin. Yet we are still the most oppressed people in Canada. And the genocide of our people has been ignored until recently and our residential schools where they robbed our culture and did grotesque atrocities to our children the last one closed only in 1996. We are still second class here and I can understand their anger. Even though I believe love is the only thing that will save us from ourselves

    For the most part it's due to the fracking that the government does on their land. Most of the land that was given to indigenous people back in the day was purposely meant not to be prosperous to weed out and kill off the indigenous population. That racism continues today because it's too much money, too much work, or not enough accountability.
