In all honesty... every Thai Muay Thai fighter I've faced has been 100% respectful. I even moved over to Muay Thai for a bit (from KB) but felt like I was an imposter of sorts. I respected the ceremonial aspects but knew I didn't really relate to them so moved back to KB out of respect for them.

K-1 was brutal for fighter. Most people dont know this. In one day they have to fight 3 people to win the title. After you win one fight, you sit and wait for your next match. Your first match can be brutal, how your suppose to win the next 2 more is already at your limit. This is, why the way Buakaw won so many time. Its was to legendary. If your not tired of your first match. Your next one going to really test your skill to survive.

So true! It's exactly why this approach to unarmed/hand to hand combat is used in military training. The Ghurkha soldiers would "mill" in this way during WW2 and later... the regular UK Army followed a traditional boxing-type approach at the time. Before too long they realised just how ferocious the Nepalese were and just how much endurance they had. Now pretty much every military force on the planet will require a soldier to go through multiple fights, multiple opponents etc.

imho, the scariest thing about Muay Thai is that it basically is rid of all the unnecessary and flairing turns, hops and overall movements. Instead, they stand tall infront of their opponent, eat the strikes, take the pain, and they give back 10x the pain the opponent gave them. They're a brick wall that is just advancing at you absolutely no matter what you do to stop them. Three cheers to Baukaw and all the fighters that courageously stood up against him in the ring!

The downfall of K1 begun then - Buakaw robbed off obvious wins because of the Kehl fight, because he was fighting Japanese fighters, that first fight with Souwer was also unfair, the banning of knee strikes after his 1-way victory with Takayuki (his mother protested against knee strikes), last-minute rule changes… Buakaw is an excellent role model, great personality and character. Watch the one when he did taxi driving in Thailand and chatting with fellow Thais to motivate them

His name is Sombat Banchamek ;) "BuaKaow" ( White lotus or Lotus White)) was choosen by him from 3-4 suggestions that his kru ( coach) presented to him as he needed a cool name as an artist, according to his kru ;) I once met him and hes father up in Chiang Mai a long time ago while i was training at Lanna Muay Thai camp. Hes unique, unlike other Thaifighters who gets overtrained and "burned out" before the age of 30, hes still scoring at an age of 41!..THAT´s remarkable!, and yes....ofc not to mention Seanchai.

I live in Thailand and Muay Thai is a way of life here... kids start young and young teens fight constantly, especially in the Issan where tis guy is from. You have not lived until you have been to a Muay Thai event, filled with absolutely rabid fans of all ages, many drunk on lao khao, who go mental for their favorites, as the traditional music wails away as fans screech. Thais seem indestructible as the beat the dickens out of each other with zero regard to personal safety.. Those kicks you can feel them in your chest when they connect, a whump... these guys train by kicking trees and lampposts to harden the legs, the are mad

Sombat rewoke the Muay Thai spirit in Thailand and to gain popularity thruout the world. Training camps grew like mushrooms out of horseshit in every city. The last decade Muay Thai lost it´s status in Thailand.....or it didnt have any status att all, it was something that only poor poeple did, a dirty low class way of earning money. Sombat changed all that, and Muay Thai got it´s status back .
