Amos got a better character and script writers, it took Stewart awhile to find his footing as Picard, Amos hit the deck running with Adama, he was a flawed hero archetype but he did amazingly.

@@Elthenar sorry, but adama blows picard out of the fucking water. the situations he needs to navigate, constantly, while still keeping his integrity (for the most part) are a whole different caliber.

@@jenshep1720 That applies in reverse too. Adama was a grizzled old war horse. Who's paranoia about Cylons and his intractable nature just happened to be invaluable. Picard however, handled a number of situations that Adama would have been ill prepared to deal with. Picard representing Data at the trial to see if he was a real life form was a highlight, Adama was the son of a lawyer but he didn't have the philosophical or technical chops to mount the defense Picard did. Adama would have struggled with many of the things Picard did aside from tactics and strategy. Aside from Picard, Sheridan from Babylon 5 has a stake in this discussion too. As does Sisko.

@@Elthenar that is true, but context matters. any number of starfleet captains could have done picards job. be it sisko, or janeway, or even riker. he wasnt irreplaceable. adama however, was the only one who couldve done what he did. if he had failed, that wouldve been it for humanity. much higher stakes, much different pressure.

The show was great in the beginning, but in the late Season 2 and the last two season, went downhill with stupid plots, like the Final Five arc, and Kara song, and the over exaggerated soap opera, that goes nowhere, sure, we get it, Kara is damage, Kara is broken. But is really necessary to get it that far? Even in the original Battlestar Galactica the melodrama was tone down even after all the tragedy, sure, the main protagonist not may had the happiest ending, but at least was way far better than the ending of the reboot that made everything meaningless, pointless.

Adama had some great speaches. But rarely if ever held true to his own principals. Refused a lie detection test. Love hate relationships with his own son and Star Buck. Would have executed Cally and her child I'm sure if Tyrol hadn't caved on a strike. Not to mention would have gone to war with a Admiral over something he would probably have done himself at some point. A great show, and thoroughly enjoyed it. But it ever you needed lessons on how to command, this ain't it.

It's an unpopular opinion but a valid point of view. Adama got away with a lot because the plot demanded it and Olmos was the star of the show. When i think back to the mutiny toward the end of the show I don't think there's any chance i would have been on his side. I speak from having been in the Navy and can honestly say that from the perspective of the lower decks Adama would (by the 4th season) alienated a great deal of the crew and would have appeared a failure, incompetent and even a traitor.

You forget he won back the crew after the cally incident because as soon as the strike was called off he allowed the chief to do as he asked and meet the president, he was never against he crew but he had to make it clear they had to obey orders first and ask for concessions later

@@Ares99999 I think you are missing the point here. I wasn't offering a commentary on whether or not Adama was right or wrong. My commentary was more about whether or not Adama would have been able to convince his crew (the ones further down the chain that didn't have his perspective or all relevant info) that his plan was the right plan. And the fact that this wasn't the USN and was last military ship would play heavily. In a real navy not following orders has consequences back home... what if there is no home? He would have a hard time keeping people in line if they started to doubt him.... all I'm saying is a lot of people would have doubted him by that point... and I think imagining myself as some red shirt extra I think I would have been one of them.
