@@miamijules2149 all Galaxy mk1s were refitted to the dominion war standard. in terms of ship to ship combat there's little difference between the two, the Mk2 is more simplified, less luxurious ect. but largely the same just easier to build

@@venomgeekmedia9886 Unless, like I and some others have discussed, Section 31 has a small fleet of "Oberths" - that are actually anything but. They only look like them. Take a moment to imagine what Royal Fuckery you can do, if you only hold a ship to its outside looks, core out the inside, and fill it with anything your "super top secret, can get anything we want, even Alien tech" imagination can fathom.

@@venomgeekmedia9886 See, that's how Trekkers should be thinking about the Oberths. They're scouts, but also perfect for logistics and coordination. Of course you dont send them into battle. You wouldn't with a EWCM plane, either. But you NEED that supported logistics in ANY battle. How you used an Oberth as the only survivor at the Battle of Wolf-359? (Even though, I thought it was the Nebula class USS Endeavour that was the survivor.) That's perfect. It makes sense.

Halfway through I was thinking this sounds a lot like the Bismarck, and then the engagement with the Queen Elizabeth and the Artemis completely proved it. I always love stuff like that, bringing in actual historical battles and Concepts into a Star Trek setting

Kinda sucks that Damar never got his hands on a Hutet. There could've been a whole episode of Damar stealing the Hutet from drydock and using its weapons on Rondak. Then the Hutet could've served as Damar's mobile base of operations which would have made for some wicked exterior shots for those episodes.

I think by season 7 paramount was in cheapskate mode and not putting much into the show. They couldn't even give us a "new" battle for the finale, it was repurposed footage from the rest of the war so a brand new "hero" ship wouldn't be an option as cool as it would be.

@@Grimloxz Which I recall is pretty much how Damar's Free Cardassian Forces got wiped out that one of his officers turned coat on him. Still, could have made for good story, about Damar using the Hutet as his mobile base and as a symbol of a Free Cardassia to inspire the people and Kira straight up telling him what a massive load the ship ends up being, for how much fuel it needs, how many crew is needs and what a massive target it presents.

This is a Star Trek Cardassian version of the World War 2 German Bismarck battleship.

Took out 2 starbases and dozens of starships. Quite the ship...

It shows that in the ST universe, like in the real WWII histories, large ships work best in battle groups. Battleships always functioned best when with full groups including destroyers and carriers. When isolated, any ship will go down when facing a full fleet, or navy.

Didn't know Tupolev was a Cardassian . I mean that as a compliment. Also was expecting the Federation fighters to be of the Swordfish class😁.

Excellent story and artwork! Dominion treachery is definitely a realistic cause for the Hutet's fate, and why we never got to see it any of the main fleet battles in DS9. It makes sense that the Dominion would fear the Hutet and what it represented to the Cardassians - naturally seeking to sabotage and discredit the mighty ship as soundly as possible. They had their own battleships, but of course the Cardassians doing the same wasn't "cost efficient"... Can't let your subjects gain too much power after all, right? So they sent it off on a suicide mission. Clearly they underestimated what a beast of ship it was though. It's incredible what it accomplished all on its own.

Cardasia 15 years later after the war: hey why don't we revive the Hutet platform but instead of a massive battlecruiser it's a relatively smaller but better armed ship with stealth and intelligence capabilities.

WOW, HUTET had one hell of a run. Far better then Bismark or Yamato both of which only got a one-way cruise before being sunk. The HUTET was able to destroy a fleets worth of ships, and create a huge distraction, pulling even more off the front lines, probably holes that were exploited viciously by Dominion Raiders. So 2 Starbases, At least 20 ships including two separate task forces specifically assigned to hunt her down and who knows HOW many freighters and other targets of opportunity. As GARAK would say: I'D CALL THAT A GOOD BARGAIN.

I really enjoyed this episode, very much a 'Sink the Bismarck' feel. Well done.

Very well told, reminds me of stories I was told about a one of the kind German warship during WWII, The Bismarck I believe. As for The Hutet, I do remember this ship from the game DS:9 Dominion Wars where I was part of a mission against it commanding a ship which was also a one of a kind Starfleet vessel, it resembled an Intrepid class but with a lower, wider profile and the hull had an armoured look like the Enterprise E. It fired 5 pulse phaser cannons forwards from the bottom of the saucer whiles simultaniously firing 4 quantum torpedoes forwards from the top of the saucer, it also had regular beam phasers and photon torpedoes which fired from the dorsal and aft sections. With this hugely powerful ship and help from a few NPC ships you eventually defeat The Hutet. It was a good game that though unfortunately I only ever got it to work on Windows 98, once XP and further more advanced operating systems came in, the game simply wouldn't run for me. A shame really as it had a lot of good missions like this and the recovery of Thomas Riker. Etc.

Nice adaptation of the hunt for the Bismark, especially liked the not to the Tribal class DDs that harassed Bismark, would have been nice if you'd worked in a reference to ORP Piorun the Polish ship that taunted Bismark by signal light during her attack, maybe a Bjoran or Maquis crewed ship? Only other change I'd have made is replacing the Nebula and Galaxy with an Excelsior (there's even a USS Hood, NCC 42296) and a newly commissioned Sovereign to better match the relative ages of Hood and Prince of Wales.

Specifications for the hutet: 864 meters long, 270 meters high, 661 meters wide. Forward armament: 6 heavy spiral wave disruptors, 12 torpedo launchers and 8 secondary medium spiral wave disruptors. Broadside armament: 18 medium disruptors (9 left/aft, 9 right/aft) and 12 beam torpedo launchers (6 left, 6 right) Aft armament:12 torpedo launchers

This story reminds me of the battleship Yamato. It's propulsion or steering severely limited, yet still a threat. Then again I am not sure how else it could of ended. I side with Cardassia that it was a good stand. And that it too, was also a victory for Starfleet. However the Dominion acting like it was a useless ship really grinds my gears. A shame one was not available to switch sides and fire an endless stream at the Dominion at the final battle. That would of been a sight to behold.

If the obsidian order were only half as good as ever claimed, the Cardassian Central Command would know that the Galaxy class is not a warship, but rather a spaceship city. Of course, the Galaxy class is well armed like all other Starfleet ships, with the exception of the Oberth class. There are kindergartens, schools, swimming pools, fitness studios, concert halls, several theaters, large scientific laboratories, several holodecks and negotiation rooms. The captain of a ship of the Galaxy class not only commands a spaceship of the Starfleet but is also the mayor of the spaceship city and also the scientific director of all scientific institutions.

My second favorite Dominion War tale.

Very well done! Did love this one. And yes, definitely a cry for the Bismark and various surface raiders in WW1 and WW2 particularly.

You know, three years in, still love this one. Also, you gotta give it to the Hutet, it gave far better than it got. Like, if I was an analysist in the Dominion at that point, I'd actually have ordered more constructed. Cause by itself, it took out: One Battleship(Queen Elizabeth), two cruisers(Unnamed Cheyanne-class and the Swayze(is that how you spell it?), and several cargo ships, as well as disabling the cruiser Tsonga(again, hope I'm spelling that right), and the King George and Merzi, as well as heavily damaging the other five ships in that Galaxy-wing. It pulled and tied down 16 ships in it's destruction, three of which will not be seeing combat again ever, and 8 of the others having to be put in for repairs, with at least three probably going to be in drydock for at least a few months. That is well worth the investment of that one Battleship!

Bravo. Loved it. Reminiscent of the Bismark. You got a real talent for this.

Best story to date, it was really interesting, and finally one that I didn't know deeply. I hope for more such videos.

This was a very compelling episode. It held my attention all the way through.

In Discovery's defence, the Dominion War is literally basically the Best Trek arc there is. It blows most of TOS, TNG and Voyager out of the water too.

Uh, "the behemoth didn't fit into Dominion doctrine"?? They built a much more massive dreadnaught type than the Hutet. The one the USS Valiant tried to take down. Also, many more were seen in orbit of Cardassia Prime in "What we leave Behind". The Hutet is also much larger than 800m. Every source i can find has it around twice that length.

"That this behemoth warship, did not fit into Cardassian or Dominion doctrine." Meanwhile; the Jem'hadar dreadnaught-battleship: "Am I a joke to you." It would appear that quite a bit of Cardassian society has managed to quickly rub itself onto the Dominion.

@@venomgeekmedia9886 Suffice to say, as far as we know, the Dominion had not fought a war, a REAL war in centuries with the Jem'Hadar fleet having been mostly serving in a patrol and "Peace Keeping" role and hadn't needed any large scale capitol ships since they didn't have any enemies who fielded them

It does make one think how devastating the Dominion War would have been in both sides were fully mobilized and militarized with hundreds if not thousands of Sovereigns, Prometheuses, Defiants, and Akiras duking it out with Jem'Hadar fighters and battleships.

@@occultatumquaestio5226 Well, the Dominion were well placed for a long war of attrition, since they could just clone their soldiers and ship crews, could churn out ships rapidly in vast numbers, only needing raw resources and had armies that were utterly indifferent to their own casualties and were indoctrinated for loyalty and aggression. If the Dominion were fully mobilized, they would have won in the long term by just burying the Alpha Quadrant in expendable reinforcements. After all, the Jem'Hadar and Vorta are happy to give their lives for the Founders and the Founders can always make more of them and besides, they're only Solids

@@weldonwin ; This scenario of course, is excluding asymmetrical tactics such as the closing of the wormhole & the Section 31 morphogenic virus, and also assumes that the Dominion has the resources, infrastructure, logistical capacity, and local stability (both internal & external to avoid invasions and/or rebellions) to send most of their military into the Alpha Quadrant. Also while Dominion's ground troops are able to be grown an raised quickly, their ship construction speeds to be around as fast or even slower than that of the Federation's. Plus as I said in the last comment Starfleet and it's allies would also already be fully mobilized and militarized, hundreds if not thousands of Sovereigns and Prometheuses would almost certainly be able to take on anything the Dominion has, especially with homefield advantage. In a pure war of attrition, with no tactics and fighting to the last ship and solider, I would agree with you and say the Dominion and it's allies would win, but it would be much a pyrrhic victory. Where if more asymmetric tactics and larger strategies were to be employed, even without the morphogenic virus I would say the Federation and it's allies would have a strong/likely chance of victory. Going back to my previous comment however, I was more thinking about how much more bloody and ferocious, and destructive the conflict would be overall, not who would be the winner.

When I was a kid I wrote up lots of stories of the U.S.S. Ark Royal. A massive prototype Federation Battle Carrier that was meant to single handedly take on a Borg Cube. Her 'carrier' role was added during the dominion war. However never fired a shot in anger. Like the Defiant she was built and mothballed at a secret facility until she was needed. 'Zeal Does Not Rest'

Very good story and such an imaginative retelling of a huge battleship we've only seen once on Star Trek DS9. In the DS9 episode "Sacrifice of Angels", one of the last Cardassian warships destroyed was a Hutet I'm sure of it, but that battleship was heavily damaged or even destroyed by Klingon ships allowing the Defiant to punch through the Dominion attack fleet and warp directly to DS9 and the wormhole.

It's possible that was the Hutet's sister ship mentioned here.

We need a Bismarck themed song for this ship, and also it would've been cool if her sistership was a heavily modified version that required a qantum torpedo to put the ship down. "Warp core disabled, ship is unmaneuverable. We'll fight until the last disruptor.

So the hutet oneshotted a galaxy class damn!

Imagine if they made ten of these, and put about 1,000 galor class ships and 1,000 keldons and attacked the federation line.

This was fantastic a well put documentary as such. As other in the comments have said, this is like the Bismark. Beast took out so many ships! How the dominion viewed it as a failure is beyond me! If the ship had more support ships, it would of done so much more. What a shame. Question though, as no wreckage was found, was it really destroyed? Transported somewhere maybe? Imagine if they had multiple ships. Dominion F up on this. Had me on the edge of my seat!

And I thought the Scimitar was ridiculous. It's part super-carrier, part super-dreadnought, part star base, part e-war ship. If it were a Starfleet vessel she'd be dubbed the USS Mary-Sue... or the Burnham.

Remember Dreadnought? That planet killing super-cruise-missile from that one episode of Voyager, that was armed with Quantum Torpedoes and heavy phasers, could fight its way through anything, could outsmart anything and was an all around Super Weapon? Yeah, that thing was supposed to be Cardassian too

@@RealengoPrimordialDemon Not heavily modified, they made ONE modification, just one, in the form of one B.Torres, reprogramming the AI and sending it back out to attack a new target. They made no structural changes and no systems changes beyond the reprogramming, it was simply stupidly broken OP and bore no resemblance to Cardassian technology we had seen before which always favored simple and reliable over fancy gadgets.

@@weldonwin dude the interface and OS was base in federation technology and to do that they'll have to heavily modify the components like O'Brien did to DS9. Also the weapons system look more like federation weapons. Voyager only has problems cause they didn't wanted to blow the thing off at the beginning. Also Cardassians don't have quantum torpedoes.

it is powerful but lacks those things that made the Scimitar truly overpowered- no cloak, not very agile, no super weapons, and requiring heavy maintenance.

A nice story. Backstage info is that thr Feds didn't loose a single war refit galaxy during the dominon war.

I remember when I was watching Deep Space nine back in my senior year of high school I saw the Dominion Battleship in the episode "Valiant" , but throughout the rest of the series, there wasn't any mention of the Hutet.

It would have been awesome to see the hutet during DS9 run, however yes the hutet matches the story of the bismarck

It's a great story, well told, I just keep thinking how cool it would have been to have Klingons hunt her

Excellent nice camo of the Luna class and Galaxy X likely the fully built ones to war time spam out ones Surprise no warnings as Hutet skim around Breen space to attack and could have expose the secrets Breen Alliance likely why the Dominion mad as all that effort and risk and loss for nothing or little gain forgetting war more then fighting but right as risk the Breen in this something playing there cards close and something that Starfleet should of but didn't catch on as enough problems and not in mind. Also looking at Typhon on the map seems we now know where the 7th Fleet base and wonder if get to see a Spacedock Defense and usage as it was design for war but peacetime saw those weapions strip but now modernized and weapons put back on Still if Enterprise engage those Quantum Torpedoes would have wreak havoc on the Hutet. Of course her sister ship still out there and Dominion likely to throw everything at the Federation so they can build more of there Battleships with free up dock space. This time Starfleet would have the Luna class ready as advance sensors to get past any jamming plus armed with Quantum Torpedoes. Likely her sister ship built after the fact was more in line to counter the Sovereign class as always wonder why the Dominion never went after Enterprise as alone and detach Also thinking on Star Trek Invasion Carrier Starship as a proper Carrier and Assault Ship like the Wasp class Assault as Starfleet develop a proper carrier from Defiant as tough and small to be built in numbers the Typhon class Also best Federation Special Force the Catians why Andorians make great frontline soldiers as love to see Kitten special forces wreak havoc on the Dominion

personally get more of a Tri-plane vibe myself. the 3D model is available if you contact Ryselle-3D she is more than happy to share the model, and there are plenty of 3D printers out there. i'd love to see this done as a miniature.

Nice Video. I thought in the game Dominion Wars which the Hutet is featured, it's much larger. Impression is it is as large as the Dominion Battleship around 1600 meters

it is and even more Thicc in that form. i later sources put it at 800m+ which is far more reasonable for the cardassians, given that's still double the size of a Galor.

Hello, could you do a versus video of The Jem'Hadar soldiers against the Super Soldiers of TNG Season 3 Eps.11 "The Hunted".

I keep wanting to call this ship the Huttlet.

Amazing as always venom. Who else wants to see this as a 3 hour or 2 hour two parter movie? Two parter could be called The Hutet unleashed and the second The hutet's final hours.

"Multi-role capital ship" is a more apt description for a galaxy class ship. With its huge internal volume (far more than needed for its weapons and crew) including its large primary shuttle bay that could, and presumably did, host a squadron of Peregrine fighters, a galaxy class ship's military roles would probably include: fighter-craft/landing boat carrier, troop transporter, as well as battleship.

Your content is amazing.

Federation: You know that Galaxy class ship you been admiring and preparing for? Well here's its improved successor, Sovereign class... Rest of powers: Fuck....

Should have said "Destroy the Hutet, destroy the Hutet, destroy the Hutet!"

hardly, it lacks agility is very expensive and costly to maintain, and lacks 'modern' armament instead simply achieving damage through brute force.

@@venomgeekmedia9886 Hardly what? "It's expensive" is not a weakness of the ship itself and the thing is taking on armadas of galaxy and nebula-class by itself. A Borg cube lacks agility too but, like this thing, it's so powerful it dosn't matter but at least with the cube it makes sense given what and who the borg are. Like I said, this is a fantasy uber ship. It still looks cool and I like the concept of the Cardassians trying to build something that can compete with a galaxy 1v1 but this is kinda silly. There is "power creep" and then there is putting on rockets and blasting to the moon. Even as silly as the idea was that a bunch of miners could build a super warbird with a "perfect cloak" even the Scimitar couldn't slug it out with fleet of federation capital ships for hours.

true but just because something is ridiculous doesn't stop it from actually existing, Bismark or the Maus are examples of this. the cardassians are at a tech level where they either have to turn up with more or overcompensate. i do actually have an episode on the scimitar which works to explain why it was so overpowered.

@@venomgeekmedia9886 Bismarck was pretty contemporary for it's time and was quickly outgunned and outclassed by the South Dakota, Iowa, and Yamato-class. It was hardly a "ridiculous" battleship for it's time. I don't know as much about tanks but a quick lookup seems to indicate that the maus tank, while large, had little impact on the war.

This video's pretty good, but it does seem to be a Star Trek rendition of the Bismark incident in WW2 in a lot of ways: your opponent has built a practically indestructible battleship, so you cripple its systems with an air-strike, and overwhelm it with mainline warships. Of course, it is likely that the humans drew on that battle to demise the Hutet in Star Trek. I do, however, immensely appreciate the Star Trek national map you have in this video- I like these a lot. Please do continue and please do not ever remove these works of yours.

that is an interesting second. technically most stars are in visual range... but the delay is such that we are seeing them from millions of years ago. sensors might be able to 'see a ship at 1Ls (light second) but what you'd actually be seeing the ship as it was 2 seconds ago.

It is always terrifying when a warship that large drops out of FTL in your face!
