I used to play this with my friends at LAN parties. I had the crappiest PC of the bunch and so it took me roughly the length of a round to load into the game. I'd sit there for 15 minutes just listening to this song and when I finally got into the game, the round was over and they changed the map. And loading started all over again. Amazing memories.

I’m 30 years old. This game is one of the first online shooters i ever played. I was 13 when I first started this game and the Vietnam version. This is the game that got me into online shooters. Still play battlefield to this day. Also a avid halo and cod fan

What I notice about this game is that there are no nametags to tell you who you're ally or enemy is, you have to actually identify enemies by their uniforms and their weapons. The game also doesn't tell you that you got a kill, racking up points or even a sound that signifies that you made a kill unlike the new Battlefields. The old Battlefields seemed like different beasts.

Agree with nametags, good feature i'd say as its more realistic. It does tell you if you get a kill though, top left text scrolling down shows killer, weapon used and person killed. Whilst the maps look a bit bare looking back, the gameplay was spot on. I must give 1943 a play as i never tried that one. Hope to see 1944 coming out at some point!

This makes me feel like I'm 13 again at 29. Just a kid awake first thing in the morning playing some game I bought in Target having the time of my life. I remember being scared of the planes because they were coming after my truck. Such great times

This game visuals were outstanding for its time. We had stuff like cs 1.6 back there. Not even source engine, and this game had minimal aliasing, more poligons and better textures than many other games. I loved it.

i had to ask my parents for ja complete new computer just for this game. we only played cs 1.6 or wc2 or c&c2.... this game was to heavy for nearly all computers of my friends.

Glad to see a resurgence of indie games that ditch graphics for gameplay. Gaming was in a better place when AAA studios focused on making their games more fun instead of making them prettier.

@@RadishBoi118 The new Battlefield will have a Halo Forge like portal where you can make matches from so far 2 old bf 1942 maps with bf1942 weapons and factions but with the battlefield 2042 graphics. The hype is real

2:44 that tank suspension looks really good, i don't remember tanks moving that realistically in newer games

I was 8 years old when this came out in 02 (if I'm correct). This was one of the very first games I ever played and I was hooked. Instantly. Incredible to see people still play this.

I miss this game so much 😥 2002 was a good year.

This game was epic, I still remember one particular battle, in a bunker holding off the enemy while 2 friendlies supported me as best as possible with covering fire until I made a run for it. A zero then cut me down

Hidden and Dangerous was the Master of all, I think...

Just turned 30, I got this game when it came out and was completely hooked. I played the series up until recently, the new battlefields just don’t feel the same. Hopefully they will go back to focusing on gameplay vs micro-transactions. Also the gameplay was so smooth, something we don’t see a lot of lately.

I loved this game as a kid, then I discovered the Desert combat mod and it blew my mind. Wonder how awesome it would be if modern battlefield games allowed modding.

I'm hearing classic sound effects from both Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator: WW2 Europe Series (1998) and Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis (2001). I grew up with both of those games and wish I had known about this one as well.

I absolutely love that even up to 3 years ago people were playing this iconic game. I remember buying my copy and rushing home to install it. I spent many a sleepless nights and calling in sick days to play BF42! I miss the chemistry I had with my clan and no other game was ever quite like the BF42 experience.

Bad Company 2 was better, but still good.

Everything about this game is so iconic and epic. I love it so much. My favorite battlefield game by far.

Ambience with Hardcore Nostalgia

I played single player a lot, you could explore so much like stealing enemy ships etc. Base camping and really get into places you couldn't explore in multi-player

So many epic battles that took place in this legendary games.

indeed. plus the freedom left to the player in bf1942 is extreme: - put c4 in jeep, jump before impact and detonate - shoot down planes with your tanks (I was often doing it) - stay alive much more than other players and increase your kill ratio by playing medic (my fav class) -the community was awesome, far less insult and trashtalk than in cod4 - awesome flac canon to shoot down planes I've been playing games insce 1976, bf1942 is my best online gaming experience ever philipines map: snipers, tanks, planes, boats, infantery.. great memories

Playing this game all day on a long Sunday were some of the best days on my life. Love the video, wish they could recapture this. Cut the crap; skins, squads etc.. give me this and large fully controllable vehicles.

Some history for my children: back in the time, EA wanted so badly destroy the supremacy in online scene of id software and Valve titles, especially Day of Defeat, famous mod for Half Life 1 in ww2 (later rebuilt for Source). BF1942 managed to balance this power in favour of EA, a new age was begin..

Bought Half Life 2 and L4D2 during the Chinese New Year Steam sale, I felt like something is lacking. Finally remembered this one when I watching some war documentaries. I remember needing to wait for my brothers to finish playing before I could play but then get told off cause I'm too young for violence and girls shouldn't be playing games. Now I got my own computer and I don't care if I'm too old to play games. Too many rules too little time 😅😂
