0:22 I always loved how they activate their boosters at the same time after the roll. It fits perfectly to the music and cinematography. This is one of those scenes that you simply can FEEL! Not only that, but it also highlights the brotherly bond between Anakin and Obi-Wan. They have gone through so much shit together that they've synchronized their actions without even thinking or talking about it. I love it! It is also one of those rare skills that Obi-Wan learned from his former padawan. We know that he hates flying, while Anakin loves it, so in this one regard, Anakin is the teacher. In first 6 SW films the sounds effects were like a living character on their own. It informed us how to think about the thing making the sound. What you can tell about this sound is that those clones along with the plane (as if the plane is a living thing itself) are derived from a good place, but they are tapping into a negativity to combat the negativity of the other side.

even from this sequence, it's so clear what a good person Anakin is. he wanted to go help his squadron when they were in trouble and he refused to give up hope of rescuing Obi-Wan. it was always striking to me just from this opening that Anakin is obviously a much more mature character than the one we saw in Episode II, where it seemed that he and his master were constantly at loggerheads. there's so much going on here in the writing, it's great stuff.

Best Star Wars movie, imagine if Lucas got to make the story for the sequels
The first 20 minutes of ROTS is my favourite bit of any Star Wars movie and it has everything I like about the franchise distilled into one chunk. Grandiose action, a unique and colourful cast of characters, a larger than life scenario, political scheming, charming and quotable dialogue, a light hearted classic adventure tone with a dark current running underneath, a fantastic musical score and amazing visual effects. It’s got everything. I love this movie
I remember seeing this for the first time on opening night at midnight in a packed theater, alive with energy, the start of this scene with those drum sounds, knowing that (as i thought at the time) this would be the last star wars movie, and at the end of it Anikin would be darth vader, totally epic memories. Watching it at home just doesn't have that same awe that seeing it on opening night at the theater has
I love how it shows just how skilled Anakin was as a Pilot. It goes back from the very first movie where Obi won describes him as the best star fighter in the galaxy. Managing to destroy 2 missles, crush bots against Kenobi's ship without crashing into him and maneuvering through the battle like nothing. George really gave us a treat with this opening
This is where the fun begins
When this one scene is non-ironically more interesting than the Sequel trilogy
This has to be the best opening scene the dialogue is 🔥and the action everything is truly amazing 🤩

George Lucas’ poetry is at place here and throughout the whole movie. Notice both Lucas trilogies feature a massive space battle in their third installments. ROTJ has the climatic space battle at the end, showing that it’s all led up to this and this is the ultimate triumph for the OT characters. ROTS has the battle in the beginning of the film, showing this is the true peak of the PT characters’ triumph and it will be all downhill from here.

I just realized an interesting detail at 2:47 when the homing missiles are fired, Anakin easily deals with them by spiralling his ship so that they collide, then we cut to Obi Wan struggling to get them off his tail. It's a subtle nod that while Obi Wan is a more experienced jedi, Anakin is the better pilot. A pod racer at heart.
