I've wondered if a better whiskey makes much of a difference in a cocktail and thankfully you did it for me. Thank you for saving me the expense of trying this myself. And you chose two of my favorites, Old Fashion and Sentimental Gentleman. Great video. Btw, anyone else notice in these last two whiskey videos that Jeremy seems to get a little tipsy but his wife handles the drinks just fine? Hmm....

I've gradually warmed up to using pricier stuff in cocktails because, when they're good and justify their price, they usually translate to that much better of a cocktails. It's like when you're throwing a recipe together; sometimes it's only as good as the ingredients you put together (I say sometimes becomes not everyone will enjoy or appreciate it). Case in point: ECBP in an Old Fashioned. Shit's a game changer.

$800/750ml = $1.07ml. 1 ounce = 29.57ml so roughly $120 for the last cocktail for the 4 ounces. Thanks for testing it out, always interested to see comparisons between expensive and budget in cocktails. My frugal soul would hurt, too, lol. Also it's nice to sip in order to appreciate the time and effort for the more expensive craft items and the nuances that come with it..

FANTASTIC VIDEO!!! Bottom line is if i'm mixing for special occasions and want to make guests feel special then I'm pouring EH all day! But i'f I'm focussing on making a well balanced cocktail then Old Grand-dad is the standard bourbon of choice. I am a HUGE fan of Old Grand-dad 100 proof for cocktails! with a VERY high rye (27%) content in the mashbill it holds up great to the sugars and bitters.

My buddy and I have a phrase “Coke your blue“ meaning to enjoy whatever it is you have how you have it. Kind of like the whiskey tribe. If you want to put Johnny Walker blue into your glass of Coke, all the power to you. He was gifted a small bottle of Johnny Walker blue, and we both tried it and decided that it is no better than Johnny Walker Black. That’s just our opinion, of course that is subjective. We still have the bottle, and the only time we use it is if someone decides to be a snob and we want to make them cringe by pouring an ounce or so into a glass of Coke. Love the content! #gimmieaflask #savethestagg

I have the same attitude about using expensive whiskey in a cocktail. I usually make my old fashions with WT rye 101. However, when that ran out I caved in and used my sagamore double oak. ( not insanely expensive but still about $65 where I live). I have to say, it was friggin delicious. And then I decided to try it with a peated nikka yoichi. And that was amazing as well and a totally different experience. Now I’m willing to try all my whiskeys and realize that it can totally change the profile of the cocktail. I don’t know why I make rules for myself anymore.

Nice comparison. It would have been interesting to compare the Scotch in something like a perfect or dry Rob Roy. The lighter flavored vermouth may have brought around a different result. Drambuie can really mask or overpower the Scotch, depending on how you mix them.

While i usually tend to throw higher proofed whiskeys in my cocktails to keep the whiskey flavors strong, I tend to keep my less budget friendly ones away from mixers. but on the subject, in a spirit forward cocktail like an old fashioned or martini or some such, the booze matters a bit, in a big mixer type cocktail like a pina colada or something with a lot of juices and syrups, it's just straight to budget stuff.
