Although the other two made be “better made” it is the 5600 that holds the world record for having a truck run over it. It’s also flight certified by NASA so it’s tough enough.

I’ve used the 5600E on wildfires for over a decade and love it. I want to upgrade to the 5000U but I might settle for the 5610U. Seems like a good middle ground. Can’t go wrong with any of the squares IMO.

Nice and simple review for people new to g-shocks. Good job. Also, I had the m5610 and still have the 5600e, which I prefer over the M. And by a lot. Although I always wanted the 5000, I could never justify the price. It is without a doubt the flagship of the brand (because of the historical significance of the 5000 series) but still.. I really think the 5600e captures the essence of g-shock. Rugged, cheap, no bullshit.

Really enjoyed your video and was suprised at how cheap your DW was. I've not seen any shops here in the UK stocking this model. Having used the 5610 for three years, as a daily beater, I can honestly attest to the astounding punishment this model can endure. Some days I leave the house very early and when on my bike the 5610 will still receive the signal and update as I'm moving. What bothers me a bit about the radio watches, is the rumour that the tower in the US will perhaps cease. I've not heard of any plans to shut the UK atomic signal, but I can imagine a lot of angry G-shock owners in the US. Thanks again.

I own a 5000U. Improvements: This watch is a tool for me. I use it at night often. The intermittent 1.5 or 3 second backlight is useless. Option for a 15 second, or even manual on/off back light so users can see functions in the dark without having to hit the light button again. Second: Wider band please. Personal preference of course but I'd like to see this watch band a consistent width from lug to clasp or no more than a 1mm taper. Lastly; of course the buttons are hard to get to without some concentration. Larger buttons would be great but if a diameter increase is not possible, consider making the buttons taller by .5mm and maybe some knurling. I like this watch. It could be better as a tool for us working guys with some minor tweaks.

I think right now my favorite is the GLX 5600, which is not solar or multi band 6, but does have moon and tide display. As you mention, it does not show current time in alarm or timer modes, a feature I wish it had. There is also an expensive model with a titanium back and a carbon fiber strap. Incredibly light.

I've had my 5600E for going on 8 years. I bought it as a gift for myself when I graduated basic training. I used it as a "duty watch" the whole 6 years I was in the military. It's still running on the original battery and band. I once ran it over with a forklift just to show it off. The battery is starting to wear out finally but it still keeps great time. I'll replace the battery and the caseback seal. There's no way I'm throwing it away after having it for this long. All this being said, I do take care of my watches and I rarely abuse them. I see no reason a basic 5600E couldn't last 10 or more years. I will be buying a GW5000 though, I got bit by the 5xxx series bug and bought 3 5600C models. The next logical step is a GW5000☺

It's actually scientifically proven that if you don't abuse your gshock they'll wear out faster and eventually spontaneously combust. They advise daily wear or running it over with a fork lift once a year (which you've got taken care of already, so good job)! Real talk though, hard to get rid of something that's kept up with you nearly every day for 8 years! Hopefully many more years to come for you and your square! Good luck on the battery replacement!

I've been wearing a GW-M5610 every day for about two and a half years. It's the best watch I've ever had, and what I really love about it is that it is a totally maintenance and adjustment free, it just gets on with what it's supposed to be doing with no input from me. I virtually never have to press any of the buttons, with the possible exception of the night light once every six months or so if I find myself in a dark place and want to know the time. Every night I put on the internal window sill of one of my north facing London windows and most times is manages to synchronize with the Anthorn atomic time signal, so I never have to adjust the time, even to switch into or out of daylight saving time. Being solar I never have to worry about battery life either; the power reserve indicator has never moved from the 'High' indication.

Feel like the 5600 is the perfect G-Shock, because it actually is the watch that is useful for it's purpose. Being banged up and taking punishment and letting you not worry about it. If you get a expensive G-shock you end up babying, you could just as well have had a dress watch on instead technically. I have a Riseman G-Shock that shows current time in all modes. So does the square G-Shock I went with which is the GD350-1CR. The GD350 is terrific but bulky compared to the 5610. I may still get a 5610 because of its manageable size which works much better with winter clothing.
