‎ Let's visit the 2023 CIPS Global Arowana Championship! Arowana are known as "dragon fish" because of their large shiny scales, long serpent-like body, and whiskers around their mouth. Cory shows us arowana of every color and scale pattern imaginable - including brilliant gold, blood red, and steel blue. Plus, they had other championships going on at the same time, like datnoid tiger fish and aquascaping contests.

You see that a lot with Bettas and Angelfish too, years of selective breeding to get those long beautiful fins. But they end up hurting the fishes ability to swim, especially with old age

It's crazy to think how they move then, from tank to tank, and all their fins were perfect. You'd think the fins would be beat up from moving. They got net skills!

From the professional side we used specialized bag nets, essentially a giant plastic bag with a small amount of fine rubberized mesh at the end. Super slow movements is key. Bag net into big bag while in the tank. Only way to limit the thrashing.

The arowana with the very long butterfly like fins - to me its what a betta would look like if it was the size of a large koi. I normally don't care for arowanas since they are high maintenance and take up a lot of space, but for a specimen like that, I'd be tempted to have an arowana tank if I had the money and and space for it.
