This, as well as the recruitment of Jyn Erso allows the Rebel Alliance to learn about the Death Start and the fact that the scientist Galen Erso placed a flaw in its designs. @@cseijifja that is true, as far as battles go it lasted all of 18 mins and involved just a little over two thousand folks all told. Probably would qualify more as a skirmish. Ambush though would probably be a misnomer as the Mexicans were fully aware of the Texans presence and had been skirmishing with them. They even fortified their position and got reinforcements. When no attack came, Santa Ana made a crucial mistake and dropped his guard and had the army take a nap. The rest, as they say, is history.

What I particularly enjoyed about the Battle of Scarif in Rogue One was that it was the first real strategic Science FIction battle I've seen in a film. I was aware of where all of the forces were in relation to each other and both sides had a strategic goal. It also had a significant use of tactics, and wasn't just a 100 ship tag-team wrestling match. (Rebels attacking many sites to simulate larger numbers, Bodie radioing the tower to misinform them, misdirection to get the plans, reinforcements to provide the infiltrators with air/ground support, use of ion torpedoes to disable a destroyer, a Hammerhead to cause a destroyer collision, etc.) Oh my..... it's beautiful.....

Same - mine too. I’ve watched it several times, it doesn’t get old. I’ve not read/listened to the screenplay or novel, but I feel like this is that rare story that can stand very well on its own with only a film format. A lot of our sci-fi stories that are a part of our cultural heritage - Aliens (my favorite goes first:)), BSG 2004, SW, S Trek - are just SO complex they spin off countless stories and backstories and characters and plots, which is awesome, I love it. But R1 IS one of those backstories. It’s like some kid uber fan went to film school, maybe created a fan film as an assignment, wrote a screenplay he kept in his back pocket, got scooped up by Lucasfilm…

The characters feel like normal people, the actions seem logical, even the heroics are often more about the outstanding spirit of self-sacrificing soldiers, rather than the more "magic" and unattainable ones. The issue with the conflicts in Mass Effect is that the fleet battles you see in ME3 break all the rules established in the previous games. In ME2 there's a soldier chewing out two rookies on making sure not to fire until the targeting computer gave them a firing solution because when you fire that 20 kilo slug, it keeps going until it hits something, even another planet in 10,000 years. The first images of the battle of Minaeve: Turian ships firing blindly at the Reapers...who stand in front of Palaven. Any missed shot that would hit the planet would basically be a multi-megaton nuclear bomb...

Hey just want to say that your channel has been a great tool for helping my nephew with his world history and geography homework in year 7 primary. I got him hooked on wizards and warriors and next thing I know he’s asking for books about El Cid, because he followed you on to K&G. He use to have trouble staying focused for history, now he’s excited to talk about it in class. Thanks to your channel, I have one less nephew I worry about

In terms of other ideas, have you considered doing any of the battles from The Expanse? As there are both small engagements (like the attack on the Donnager, or the fight close to the end of S6E3, and there are also larger ones (like the Io Campaign). There are also are other fights which wouldn't be long enough to merit their own video, but could be combined into larger ones (e.g. the fight at the end of Season 5).
