Battle of Lissa 1866

Dragor Sub members started the project Battle of Lissa in 2012. and after more than three years of dedicated diving and researching in november 2014 found and identified the wreck of Palestro (-123 m) that sunk in 1866 in the waters of Vis almost 150 years after the famous Battle of Lissa. Palestro, together with the wreck of Re d'Italia, has been a missing part of the puzzle needed to complete the story of one of the Battle.
The wreck was found by Drazen Goricki and Alex Kvarantan at the site several miles from the wreck of Re d'Italia.
2016 Drazen organized an expedition to another wreck of the Battle of Lissa - Re d’Italia at -116 m, which was the first time that divers have ever dived on it, filming and photographing this magnificent piece of history. The expedition helped gather all the pieces of the puzzle of the most important battle in Adriatic sea together.
The project Battle of Lissa began with enthusiasm of few divers and ended in a big ceremony in that marked 150th anniversary of the Battle organized by the Ministry of Culture, Department for underwater archaeology of the Croatian Conservation Institute and Coast guard of the Republic of Croatia. A memorial plaque was installed at the wreck on that occasion.
For the first time divers were diving on wrecks Re d' Italia and Palestro which meant a dream come true for them.
One story ended, but many new stories of Palestro will surely begin.
