In order to unite Germany, the Prussians had to dismiss Austria from their leading position in the German confederation. The tensions between Prussia and Austria regarding Denmark (previously conquered provinces Schleswig and Holstein) served as casus belli. The attackers were clearly the Prussians, although formally the war was declared by Austria. The result was the creation of North-german confederation under Prussian leadership.

There were upwards of 200 in the crowd I would say. It was very hot, and the flames from the battlefield didn't help!

In 1862, Austria and Prussia allied to defeat Denmark and retake the provinces of Schleswig and Holstein. Issues concerning the governance of the two provinces led to tensions between the two states. Bismarck, Prussia's chancellor saw this as an opportunity to exclude Austria from Germany and make Prussia the leading German state (by far). Through diplomatic maneuvering, Bismarck got Austria to declare war on Prussia. Prussia crushed Austria and Konnigratz was the decisive battle.

Several kamerads of mine share a communal interest in appropriating or sewing to-pattern accurate Prussian uniforms, preferably from a Mecklenberger Regimental uniform pattern. Pray-tell, do you happen to know of a decent website where such a sewing pattern could be ordered or printed from? Or, in fact, re-make uniforms purchased from?

Very cool, very well performed. It makes American Civil War re-enactments look cheesy. Nothing against Civil War re-enactments, I like them, but this is clearly a different level.
