You pirated the game.

It must have been difficult for Caesar considering he was stuck in first person cinematic view the whole time. Couldn't see his cursor to give proper commands. And don't get me started on his problem with pathfinding. Then again, there's a reason he was top of the leaderboard in 44 BC. (Fucking Brutus and his hacking!)

he didnt have to defend arbitrary victory points, he got to deploy how he wanted before the battle, his enemies didn't get legendary buffs, in fact his enemies were less effective and less disciplined than his legions, and the entire thing was fought around the entire fort not just one area. this isnt to say it wasnt incredible what he did, just that the game doesn't mean anything with regards to real historical events.

You could argue that the arbitrary victory point was the entire fortification. And the historical sources say Caesar had an army of around 54,000 and the gauls had around 300,000. Now before you all pull your PhD's in keyboard warrior out, I know historical sources cant always be trusted. So from CA's perspective I can understand the logic behind having to defend certain points in the fort, it was to try and emulate the massive disadvantage Caesar faced, but I agree it isn't the most historically accurate battle.

Peach It's debetable you know. We could argue that Alexander was as good, or Scipio, since he won against Hannibal( I know the details on the Battle of Zama, Scipio was a bit lucky, but still). You can not really say who is the best general. Hell, even Caesar suffered a defeat( not crushing) at Gergovia, in 53 B.C if I am not wrong( correct me if I am).

Well I agree with you - in my opinion Historical battles should be accurately modelled in the game and the "challenge" of these should be how efficient to do them, not how much the odds are stacked against you in the form of artificial buffs to the AI... I hate this system, not only because I suck at cheesing the AI to your level.

Finally beat this today after watching your video blessings

The victory point makes sense. Ceasar had to keep the people inside encircled. If he had abandoned a section of his wall Vercengetorix could have escaped alessia. And then the war would have gone on for several more years. So ceasar had to keep him in and the others out. In reality he lost control over a segment for a short while, but managed to recapture it with some hundred men.

Bloody hell that looks frustrating

Thanks to this video I managed to beat it on Normal difficulty. Lost like 1300 soldiers. There are main 3 key points to achieve victory. These points are: block Vercingetorix forces with one unit while bombarding them, kill all gallic missile units using cavalry as soon as you can, keep your own missile units alive till the end and properly use them. Remember to shoot gallic missile units when they are far from you and use heavy shots to inflict maximum losses on the gallic infantry when they get too close.

and that’s just one section of the battle, the whole battle was the Roman where entirely surrounded, you have to admit Caesar is badass

Legend of total war, you are a fuckin legend. Well done man, seriously well done! This is my favorite battle from history. Loaded the battle up on normal for the first time today and thought theres no way I can win this. And here you are beating it on very hard... Bravo correction: Legendary difficulty!!

10:02 it is interesting, but in one of my tries, this went so well (sending a legionary unit up to the gate, and bombarding them when Vercingetorix attacks) in normal difficulty, that almost nobody reached my wooden wall from the top! yep. only around 200 men in 5 or 6 units. and this number was so low, that actually they didn't want to attack my fences (which - what i've found out - actually triggering the next wave), so the last wave did not come!:D i conquered the third victory point which was great, but nothing happened, so with holding all the 3 victory points, and having around 70 % of my troops after 3 waves, i lost...

The victory point makes sense historicly. The battle of alesia was an atemept by the gauls to reliave vercingetirix in the fort. The victory point is positioned in the gate...wich makes sense if there trying to get the people inside the fort out theyd whant the gates. Ik ur saying the victory point is unfair from the point of view that your not give enohgh troops but thats a diffrent point. Historicly the vp makes sense

Hello @legendofTotalWar. I enjoyed watching your video and what makes this level very difficult is because in reality Caesar charged with loads of horsemen and it scared the crap out of the Gauls, here they fight back?

i think this battle depends on your unit size settings^^ i have every unit on 120 men and i cant stretch them wide enough to hold any of these gaps.

Today I have learned that you can focus fire with artillery.

Okay, I concede. This battle isn't impossible, but it is fucking ridiculous.

Quick Tip: If you pick your arty and press alt you can manualy target specific area on the ground so you won't hit your own units

just came to check if this was impossible or not because this thing just rips my soul. spent so many hours trying to win this fucking battle

I copied your tactics and was able to beat this on legendary! But even with your tactics, there's still a huge job to be done. As you said, everything has to be perfect, you also need some luck, the AI has to completely expose his missile units, even one unit of Levy Freemen is enough to prevent your cavalry from killing his missile units

How many times did you record and did a commentary on this?

how do you make a balista shoot in spot instead of at a unit

it is sad I can't deploy my men into 2line formation......minimum is 4line.....it was changed in some patch?

Only beat this once in legendary, very hard to do it again.

I know ur not a fan of Rome 2 anymore but now that u cannot stretch formations this battle has gotten even more difficult

How did you get your units in 2 lines or less. I only can form 4 lines and then I cant protect all the walls cause they are not wide enough.

I still need to know how he stretches a unit so thin like that and also how do u select multiple units of the same kind so fast with what seems to be just 2 clicks

I cant seem to win this game. The last wave didnt seemed to appear and I controlled all victory points with vercingetorix dead as well.

Can someone explain me why archers and javelinmen have full ammo at the end of the battle while using ammo for 20 minutes and racking up 500+ kills?

Because the same reason why oathsworn shred everything in sight.

The Romans one because of booby traps and punji sticks and obstacles the Barbarians could not get past.

Obviously every player will just run away or just let it die in auto-assault if you encounter such force in campaign mode

pretty sure legend is the best total war player in the world

how do you spread the legionarys so thin? mine wont let me extend them that far, they stay 3 ranks deep or so.

A patch released after this made it so you can't apparently. It also made a lot of the tactics Legend uses here obsolete: for one, archers in the first tier will start shooting the legionaries you send up to bottleneck the gate, and the enemy will send spears to counter your cav, making it difficult to hit their missile units.

Just got my ass beat on normal difficulty for this battle, lot of stuff here (sending that one legion all the way up to the fort blows my mind) I know to do now

this is the toughest battle in rome 2

You would have been the legionary that all the others hated!

These battles are ridiculous . I don't know why they are so hard ? Could be AI? ALTHOUGH it's also buffs because I'm pretty sure I had 4 units of citizen Cav on one unit of companions in the raphia battle and lost .

so i blocked the gate of the inner city so good that all the units died and i took over the victory point of the city and i didnt win the map^^ because appearently the units rushing out of the city trigger wave 4 and 5 to attack you from the outside. and taking the victory point doesnt make you win, defeating all the armies does. contrary to every other scenario in the game. ridiculous^^

Let them gather at the victory point then order your ballistas from the hills to unleash hell muahaha

IF you had a way to get into the fort slaughter the enemy and take that position than you wouldn't need that impossible second one, but NO, by the time you get there you already lost the second point and by the resources you've invested there you just let the first one surrounded too. This is just CA trolling us, I can't imagine another reason.

That doesn't affect it really it's just if you play with max settings then you have more troops
