Battle of Ad Decimum 533 Roman - Vandalic War DOCUMENTARY

Although the best general of the Roman Emperor Justinian Belisarius earned a significant victory over the Sassanids during the battle of Dara in 530, the restoration of the Empire was just starting. Empires western lands were under Germanic control, and Justinian was eager to get them back. He sent Belisarius to Africa to deal with the Vandals. Two battles - Ad Decimum and Tricamarum were central in this campaign.

If I heard and read correctly, when Gelimer discovered the corpse of his kin, Amitus, he couldn't command his forces and instead demanded that Amitus be buried immediately, giving time for Belisarius to reform his line and win the battle.

Flavius Belisarius is one of the greatest generals to ever live, but he is underrated to Napoleon and Alexander III, because he was not an emperor. "For not by numbers of men, nor by measure of body, but by valor of soul is war to be decided." Belisarius

@@giannisv.4472 I know what it is and how it is used(more properly its artificially crafted term originally invented from highly biassed reasons and it is not really clearly defined. It is used variously for the survived eastern half of the ancient Roman state after fall of its western half but sometimes it also applies mainly for Roman east prior fall of the Roman west.Sometimes even west is called "Byzantine" simply on the ground of having the same regime as it evolved in the Roman Empire during late antiquity). Problem I (and many more)have with that terminology is that it is manipulative and makes people very quickly forget that its direct and uninterupted continuation of the Roman Empire not some newly established foreign state who renamed itself on "Byzantine"...very many people actually thinks it really named like that since they only know it under that artificial terminology.

I love learning about this battle, as I read about it in a book called "Key Battles that Shaped History." I think it is very interesting how Justinian went all out in transforming his military from infantry dependent force with minimal cavalry support to a predominance for cavalry with the foot soldiers providing an effective staying power against enemy attacks. I believe that this battle also exemplified the late historian Russell F. Weigley's theory on mobile warfare.

+Your Typical Pinoy True, one of Justinian's greatest errors was putting too many cooks in the kitchen, idiot cooks at that. With proper supplies, manpower, and supreme command, Belisarius could've decimated the Ostrogoths in a timely manner instead of being bogged down for decades, which led to high civilian casualties and structural damage.

General Vellisarius Birth place ...[Ormenio (Greek: Ορμένιο) is the northernmost place in all of Greece. It is part of the municipal unit of Trigono in the Evros regional unit of Thrace. It is situated near the right bank of the river Evros, which forms the border with Bulgaria here. On the other side of the Evros, 6 km to the north, lies the Bulgarian town Svilengrad. Nearby villages in Greece are Ptelea to its southeast and Petrota to its southwest. Ormenio is bypassed by the Greek National Road 51/European route E85 (Feres - Soufli - Orestiada - Ormenio), which continues across the border as the Bulgarian road 80 to Svilengrad. Ormenio had a railway station on the line from Didymoteicho to Harmanli in Bulgaria.

It was between the Caliphate and the byzantine empire. I don't know why you always try to give the Berber a credit in every war. That time the locals were called the Moors. This name 'Berber' appearred in the 20th century by the french historian Gabriel Camps. The first north african empire was Phoenician .

Most of the things you mentionned were invented a long time before Rome... The Indus civilization had cities (Mohenjo-daro, 2500 BCE) with indoor plumbing and other water infrastructure like baths... Laws were first recorded in Babylon (1800-1700 BCE)... The first alphabet dates back to the phoenician civilization... Even in Italy, the first civilization was founded by Etruscans, not Romans.

Vandals are originating from part of western Scandinavia. They were from West Sweden and SE Norway. It has something to do with Väner lake region Väner(n) lake's earliest name is *Vendiz "the turner". Then Vandals earliest name becomes logical, VendilaR, "smaller tribe from Väner realm". Some typical looks, that you also find in N Portugal and Brazil is like Lena Ranehag, Nathalie Hagman, Rebecka Blomqvist, Fridolina Rolfö, Johanna (Gudrun) icelandic singer etc..They certainly all have roots in the Väner lake kingdom *Vendiz...
