Battle-Group moves out for training exercise on Salisbury Plain.
Well, here's something you don't gets to see very often - a fully armed Challenger 2 battle group move begins exercise by traversing over a bridge before heading out into the main training area for live-fire exercises.
Following a 4x4 group tour on Sunday 3rd July, the tour-group leader and I returned the next day to see the troops head off.

Not range trained, as all areas filmed are either marked byways or permissive routes. The leader of the group I'm with, is well known to both the rangers and MoD police as he will always contact them before setting out onto the plain to check for closures, troop activity etc, so we can enjoy ourselves without interfering . In this case, we'd seen the troops gathering the day before during a group outing, so the leader and I went back to see them set off. Surorisingly, the troops don't mind the public being this close as it's what would happen if they were deployed overseas - there's always curiosity and they have to learn to navigate pedestrians and parked/abandoned vehicles along the way.

Salisbury Plain is an area of special scientific interest. The Army actually do take an interest in how it's managed and the eco impact they have. There are species of flora and fauna on their purely because it;s NOT easily accessible to any Tom, Dick or Harry. Site wardens regularly patrol to make sure knob head quad bikers and "off road enthusiasts" don't knacker the plain with reckless behaviour.

The other thing you have to be aware of is that the MoD own the land outright, therefore they're very much welcome to tear the ground up as they see fit.

where would you like the camoflaged tanks to train then ????? on the roads or near your house ???
