Thanks for the info Joe!
Brrraaapppp! Looks like the 260 is getting a coozie
Love electrodynamics setup great stuff. See Andy or the world famous Mr Tucker
Thanks Joe. I've been using the A123 batteries for years but I'm glad you put me onto Electro Dynamic charging switches and Balance-Charge cord. They will save me the trouble of adding the extra balance charge lead to outside the fuselage!
Thanks Joe. I will be using this setup in my BUSA L-4 that I am building.
Epic music!
I bought the switches and charge cord but the connection beteween the cord and switches is very loose it wont lock on i keep getting connection breaks when charging.
Thanks for the heads -up ,.... I have been charging my LiFE,s batteries like this for a few years now : This is how to do it . I hated removing my Lipo,s
Yeah Life and A123 are the way to go. Trying upgrade them on all my planes. Vally View RC has some a123 packs I'm going to try but Electrodynamic work great. I used an orange oil sharpie to mark the orange lead side on the charge jack so I don't hook it up backwards
How many flights / charges do you usually do before replacing those batteries?
Can you balance charge those packs without a power switch

Yes but you would have to take them out of the plane and balance charge on your charger. This just makes it so I can balance charge right though the switch
Wondering if you'd use the 2nd power lead off the ED balance switch to feed your ignition module, or whether you use a separate battery/switch setup for that?

No sir. I run one pack and one switch on each. So one pack to RX, one pack to Ignition. I personally don’t use the second lead for anything
Most of what i have been leaning towards is battery redundancy. You show two batteries but didn't explain the use of the second one. I assume it was for the engine ignition. I will keep looking for my solution.

I use one battery for ignition and one for TX.
so the only real point of the battery checker is to confirm the cells are balanced? because unless I'm mistaken LIFe batteries should always read the same 3.3 volts per cell, and if not, then there is a problem.

Actually LiFe packs can come in from 2.5 to 3.6v per cell. 3.3v is nominal voltage. So checking the voltage is a good idea to insure that the voltage does not go below. I would never fly a pack with anything less than 3.2v per cell. Because of the sudden drop off of LiFe packs it’s just to risky that they would fall off and you would loose the airframe. After 3-4 flights I normally stay at 3.3v this is why go let them go no further than 4 flights before charging.

Also 2.5v that would most likely damage the pack. So I would never use a pack for anything that is 3.0v or below. 3.3v is the safe bet.
Do you use two batteries in an airplane?

Yes sir, one for RX, one for ignition. Unless I’m flying one with a magneto, then just one.

Thanks .
Great tutorial. I’ve always heard it is a good idea to run a kill switch on gassers. Do you use them?

I always set up a kill of some kind. I don’t always use an extra switch but I’ll set up throttle kill on everything
