I went the same route. I found an old harbor freight Apache heavy duty lock box for mine. I just trimmed the foam that I didn’t need out and got those battery terminals. Works great , and light weight compared to me using my big marine battery which kept getting corroded and shorting out . This little battery and the box fits under the console of my 13 ft whaler perfectly

Awesome!
Your wire strippers have a color coded crimper that works great by not crimping too tight
Thanks for the video! Used this as an example to construct a very similar battery sonar system in my own kayak. Haven't used it out on the water yet but so far it is providing power to my sonar unit. Thanks for the tips great tutorial.

I just got my Yukon and the Garmin Striker. Now I know how to get everything connected. I also got the Scotty mount. It got great reviews. Awesome video!

Thanks! Let me know how you like the set up!
Those little beautane torch lighters or a heat gun work great on shrink wrap. Channellocks work on the connecters really good.

Thanks! I actually recently invested in a heat gun, and love it.
Instead of keeping fuse exposed you couldve wired it into box. That way there was no way the fuse gets wet or questions of “is it gonna get wet”

At the top end of your wire strippers there are crimpers that you can use to crimp the butt connectors/splices onto the ends of the wires. They work pretty good.
@LunkerHunter
Жыл бұрын
Ya, I used those, but I wanted to be able to get a lot pressure when crimping…
Those strippers have a spot to crimp that may be easier than pliers since they were made for that along with a few other features.

I got ya. However these strippers stunk. They wouldn’t strip the wire, even when the wire was placed in the correct gauge setting.
Great video , I have the same yak and have been contemplating a fish finder . After watching this and how easy you made the setup look I’ll definitely be doing it .

I am about to do similar today, but going to cut the wire shorter and have the fuse inside the box..

Couldn’t I just connect the striker cord directly to the fully insulated female terminals?

Do you have to disconnect battery to charge? Or can you 🔌 plug into compatible smart charger that uses the sae plug right back into the box?

Did you garmin come with connectors for the red and black wires? Mine are just exposed copper wires.. i didnt see where you connected it to the wires from the battery .not sure if you skipped that part, or went so fast i didnt see , but ive watched it twice now and cant tell what i missing 😂.

The garmin didn’t come with the male/female quick connectors. I had to connect those to the wires it came with, with the butt connectors. The product links should be in the description. Sorry it wasn’t clear. It wasn’t the easiest DIY video to follow…

Blue and Brown (optional) - The Blue wire is the Tx (Transmit), and the Brown is the Rx (Receive) wire. These wires are used to share user data between the STRIKER and the ECHOMAP¹ series devices.
