    Lars' skills on drums may have been their best on ...and Justice For All, but Master of Puppets was the peak as far as the drums perfectly complementing the rest of the music and vocals.

    Don't forget Load/Reload era. Most people tend to love more agressive drums, like in the first albums, but in terms of "creativity" in the second part of the 90's Lars was on fire.

    The way they wrote the rhythm guitar and general feel of the song, it just BEGS for some double bass right there! I just wish both these double bass drum sections on Battery were more easy to hear on the studio album version. You can hear it, but it's not quite as hard hitting as say Slayer's Angel of Death studio version double bass parts are. I know that Lombardo is an undisputed master, but I think my point is easy enough to see/hear. The double bass sections of Battery deserve to be as intense as possible, while still maintaining a base, cohesive vibe with the song overall, and not overwhelming it in a bad way. (like how some of modern metal sounds with the drumming)

    Shallex I’m not saying his drumming is bad, I’m saying for the black album the whole general tone was more slow and simple, being their most popular album that’s obviously what the public would think all lars’ drumming is like.

    Damn, it's a lot harder to play to this when you dont have the guitar part to follow 😅 still fun! Lars may not be how he used to be, but he's always done what needs to be done in the song to make it musical. He's the ringo of metal.

  • @ShgairoMayamo

    @ShgairoMayamo

    Henry Tate it's a kind of sweep down the toms, that kind of fill originated with John bohnam of led zeppelin. To do this he goes down from snare to rack Tom to floor Tom and ends with the kick drum in a sixtuplet timing where the kick would end on the "and" of the beat.

    If your looking to learn how to do this type of fill I suggest you watch "Rock and roll, drum outro lesson" by bonzoleum, the technique is used in that so you can learn it from there. Hope I could help.

  • @DannyGadish

    @DannyGadish

    @W W you can do it multiple ways. I normally do that fill with one snare hit, rack Tom, floor tom, then two bass hits with a double pedal. It changes the timing a bit but it sounds more interesting.

    Lar's used to try and be innovative and keep up with the other thrash drummers. Somewhere down the line he said screw it and didn't apply himself. Master of puppets and especially on and Justice for all he was very creative, some of my favorite drum work by him. Now he is seems like I've made it I don't have to try anymore. His past drum work is what's help make Metallica what it is. Now his drumming is half assed anything. Very disappointing sad really.
