BATTERY DEAD/ WHAT TO DO??? HOW TO JUMP/BUMP START A MOTORCYCLE

A quick way to start a motorcycle with a battery that doesn't have enough juice to crank the engine.

Sensible what Ben has stated here is a good idea, remember this would work ONLY when the battery has some juice/charge to make sure the ECM and pump/injectors get the required voltage. If you have a completely dead battery, that's as good as a dead meat and it won't start, unless you have a carburetted bike. Rest of the procedure is beautifully explained by Ben.

I found a trick as well since my bike has juiced out of battery in the pandemic (Wave 1) and there were no shops to buy a new one. That time I used to do the same thing but instead of 2nd gear I use 3rd and it is better to have a helping hand to push it. Actual trick is to sit on the rear seat by extending you arms to the handbar as the bike tends to skid if sat in the front seat. Sitting behind adds that weight and give a bit of extra friction for the tyre to crank the engine. Just wanted to share it!

I’m sure it’ll help, and well done! I periodically ‘roll-start’ my Himi, if parked on a decline. But have never done that ‘side-saddle’ move you did - smooth! Yup, 2nd gear; and if standing on it, bounce some weight down while popping the clutch. Question: though warmed up, you re-started it without pulling in the clutch lever, though in neutral, does that not add additional drag on the starter..? Thanks for your efforts ~

It is a good solution for you but if it happens to you in cold weather it would be better to take some cables and connect to another battery. Although the best solution is to anticipate the problem and disconnect the battery terminals if you are going to leave the motorcycle unused for a while. Also sell on bikes market some small, very light portable batteries that are used for this problem and you start in a hurry. On the other hand, doing this exercise in the cold is very bad for your body, especially for your twins, you can have a fiber break and be left without riding a motorcycle for several weeks, so it is best to use your head and a cable and connect to another battery. Thanks for the video and take care.

I thought I would share this, I see people changing batteries all the time when they are just low on water. After 2 years my 2022 Himmy battery started giving me problems starting and the trickle charger stopped charging. So I pulled the battery partially out of the holder, pealed back the long sticker about 1 centimeter, so I could see the long service strip, I then pried it out with a knife and saw that all the cells were low on water. I then filled them with naturally distilled (rain) water using an injector with needle and then closed it up. Put the battery back on the motorcycle trickle charger and six hours later it indicated that it was fully charged. throwing out a battery just because it is low on water is like buying a new motorcycle every time it runs out of gas. Of course the sticker over the service strip helps hide the fact that you need to service them and gives the false impression that it is truly no maintenance. Also using a black plastic case means that you cannot easily see the internal water levels. You actually have to open the battery and look down the tiny service holes. All this is simply a great strategy to sell more batteries.

Yes, Naveen. What you could just simply do is put your vehicle in 2nd gear. Post that, you can either be on a slope area or have someone push you while depressing the clutch. Once the vehicle is in motion, release the clutch which will jumpstart the bike.

So it takes about a week and the battery is empty.... Ask your RE - Dealer!! In Europe they change a piece in the electric cables to bring the contact of the sensor to 15, also on ignition+ !! To repair this, it costs nothing and takes 15 minutes..... Best wishes Peter (Germany)
