Excellent video and I am wondering if the "equalization" stage is what some people refer to as the "balancing" stage and if this stage is reached through the use of more current or simply a trickle charge over a long period of time

I've been using the CTEK smart charger for my motorcycle battery and for the first time, I can understand all the terms; thank you. I do have a question though. The charger says that a battery (depending on it's condition) can stay in FLOAT for up to 10 days, after which it goes into the pulse stage where the charger pulses electricity to maintain the charge. Last time the battery was in float stage for almost 15 hours (but had not moved to pulse stage). I disconnected it from the charger and connected it to my mobike but it didn't start the bike (although it did get the lights and fuel injection going). So, I put it back on the charger. Since then it has been in float for two days now and I'm still waiting for it to go to PULSE (it does say it can take upto 10 days). Would it be advisable to go back reconnect it to the bike and try again? I don't want to start all over again!!

what if any inverter doesn't have an EQUALIZATION feature. in that case, how will that affect battery life and performance? I have the same inverter where the BULK nad FLOAT feature is available but missing the EQUALIZATION feature. can you tell me about this issue?

Hello jesse and thank you for another bright explanation.my question is about the difference between gel battery and gel agm battery.my battery is 90ah agm gel.when charging with the battery charger which has the option to choose gel-agm it chatges to 14.7v and then goes from bulk to boost and float.when charging with the solar charge controller which has only the gel option (no agm option) it reaches 14.1v and goes to boost and float.can i manually change the parameters in the solar charge controller so it reaches 14.7v? Its a srne mc2450n10. 50a mppt

i self set up a solar system . seems fine lol . but i have a huge issue understanding float charge discharge etc .. im using 1kw of panels . 250 w each = 4 panels the voltage is said to be roughly 37v each so approx 140v total . i get about 130 on my charge controller , so im happy , im getting pretty good transfer from panels to battery . but i never get more than 400 watts from them .. besides that . my issue is . in the morning they charge up great . straight to full charge . 4 x 190a/h batteries , charges full at 58v . but as soon as it gets full it starts discharging . i only use about 100w an hour from my appliances . which is only my pc music system cctv and internet ,and while its discharging the watts from the panel through the charge controller drops dramatically . , by the time the sun goes down . im left with only 51v battery power . which only gives me 3v until i get warnings that the batteries are low . i havnt lost power to my room yet , but its coming very close . my assumption was , that id be charging the batteries all day, then when the sun went down id have a full 58 v's to use over night . which would be 10v's i could use up before batteries went flat . but no , i only get a few volts left after sunset and discharging . im obviously doing something wrong . i just dont know what . any ideas on how i can stop the discharging . or set it up so at night the batteries start at full charge instead of near empty ... ? this solar is a suckers game . lol ive worked that much out . its an empty pit of money to save a few bucks . but im stuck with it now and would like to make the most of it ...

I've been curious on what it means when people say your battery only has a certain amount of charge cycles, and if you charge from below 25 to 100, it's 1 cycle. charged my phone to 100 many, many times with no heat issues. Will this negatively affect my batteries life span?

Please, i want to ask how the charge controller detects the inverter load during the constant current. Because some of the current will enter the inverter too, and there wont be enough current for the batter

all in one inverters use available voltage to run your house even without a battery. Leaving your batteries while charging from solar to flow with out taking from the battery saving it for night time use.

I don't understand why a PbH+ battery needs CC charging. Surely at CV (at or below max charging V) the battery will self determine the current (with the exception of the equalisation stage) ie, a normal buck converter set at 14V or so will allow a 12V PbH+ to charge and sit at float by its own internal resistance??

An analogy to water is how it was explained to me many decades ago and what I have used to explain it to a novice. However, the actual energy flows outside the wire and you would have to struggle to compare that to water in a closed system. Maybe look at the lower pressure outside the hose and credit it with the energy produced or harnessed.

  • @SolarSolution

An excellent question, thanks! Different terms for similar things definitely doesn't help to understand these topics better, I agree. Boost is used interchangeably with Bulk. Boost is definitely not the same as absorption. Good luck! Jesse
