    We don’t have notes for these Tatlags, you must memorize them, also, it is not an improv, it is a centuries old folk melody of western Mongolia

    Hello. I'm making my own Igil and I have a dilemma with strings and bowstring. Are the strings made for horsehair, or nylon? What about bowstring, is it homemade horsehair bow, or something like violin fiddlestick? I cannot bring out the sound in several combinations. I'll be grateful for every advice.

    Does morinkhuur turn to igil just using skin top? Igil in Tuva has different tuning and different way to play.

    +Morin Huur Thank you for the quick answer ! Brilliant i will check around on your site and then contact you. Ive been searching for a long time to find an instrument to accompany the huumii singing i do. First i searched for the tuvan Igil fiddle , but i cannot find anyone making it. The Morin huur seems very similar , maybe it is the same instrument in its origin ? Thank you

    +Oscar Falcini Yes it's quite similar. The instrument in this video is actually the Mongolian "ikil" very similar to the tuvan "igil". Similar to the Tuvan igil this traditional version of the morin huur has animal skin soundbox. Let me know if you have questions.

  • @Morinhuur-custom

    @Morinhuur-custom

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Oscar Falcini Yes, big difference. We made some nice videos to demonstrate all differences. Compare the sound of the Mongolian igil (kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2idu86wYJzXocY.html) to the Mongolian morin huur (kzread.info/dash/bejne/gnmKp7xrkde-gtI.html). The skin soundbox is more deep, lower in volume, more traditional sound but rich in sound. The wooden soundbox is a "modern" touch, sounds more powerful, more volume but also very rich in sound.

    Even if this instrument is called igil (really?) why using a name so similar to the Tuvan traditional instrument? Why don't you use just Morin-Huur for the mongolian version and leave Igil to the Tuvan version?

  • @user-ns7ot2lj2s

    That is because it is how it is called in western Mongolia. Ikil and Morin khuur are both used (really).
