Tim Burton and Michael Keaton return to weirder and wintery Gotham City for a more personal take on Batman. Batman Returns, featuring Michelle Pfeiffer as the slinky and dangerous Catwoman and Danny DeVito as the misanthropic and twisted Penguin, allowed Burton to push the Dark Knight into an even darker and stranger world of heroes and villains!

The Batsuit from “Batman Returns” with its Art Deco theme is one of my favorites of all the Batsuits.
This movie was definitely ahead of its time.
My grandmother took me to see Batman Returns when I was 7 years old. It was one of the coolest and most lasting film experiences of my entire life. I will never forget it.

I am a few years older and I remember it on par with any of the other things in my, might i say quite remarkable, life. Being dropped off at the theater with my two friends. The lines. The "bat logo" carved into peoples hairstyles. The costumes and themed shirts and hats Movies were a much bigger event back then. They were a happening. I remember Godzilla a few years later not for the film but the absolute madness of hype. But Batman lived up to it and surpassed it's hype

What do you mean, "just flying to Chicago"? Why does it sound so dismissive when shooting on the real locations is well known for being more time consuming, dangerous (if we're talking action scenes), and unpredictable. Shooting a city with mate paintings and miniatures is nowhere near as complex as doing it for real. Sound stages were the green screen before the green screen. A real location will always be appreciated by real fans of cinema.
Love how Danny DeVito continuously refers to his character as “Oswald”. Shows how he sees the humanity of Penguin.

I mean... yes, he's an actor that had to embody a character, & that naturally comes, in some part, from sympathizing w/them. It's a part of the process. That said, the character's name in the film is Ozwald Cobblepot. He's rarely referenced as "The Penguin" & especially not by himself?
I saw Batman Returns at the cinema on my 13th birthday and I remember little kids getting carried out screaming after they saw the Penguin.

Thanks for uploading the entire docu! Saw it as a child back in 1992, enjoyed it but with mixed feelings - the marketing with the merchandise/toy line misrepresented it - this isn't a kid's film. Burton went full-on dark gothic with morally ambiguous villains. They're complex and sympathetic, which is a much harder sell to children, who just want the valiant hero to beat up the baddies. This was ahead of it's time, it'd be so much better received today!

I saw this movie as a kid. Not at release mind you wayyy after. But I grew up with the Christopher Nolan batman.
I wouldn't say that Batman Returns is a great film. But for some reason, I do still LOVE this movie.

That was a great documentary!
The tone makes sense since it was different than the first one because he did Edward scissorhands right before this. He carried over than tone to this movie.
Love it. Very insightful!
Danny DeVito is simply brilliant here.
