Agree, the transfer and newly remastered music is outstanding. One of the best and most surprising 4K releases of the year.

This looks surprisingly good! I just watched the blu ray recently and I had to switch to my smaller tv because it didn’t look great on the bigger TV. Looking forward to pick it up.

The colors look amazing on this release.

Pre-purchased this the very moment I heard it was to be released soon. Hands down my favorite Batman movie and indeed one of my favorite movies of all time, full stop, period. RIP Mr. Conroy (who will forever be the voice of Batman that I hear when I read anything with Batman in it). And yes, I'm no expert when it comes to image quality per se, but even I could see how much better this looked than the Blu-Ray release (which I also bought when it was released :) ) . Thank you to WB for finally releasing this movie in this wonderful format and taking the time to do it right! I guess the only thing that would have made this better would be a commentary from those behind the film, but the Kevin Conroy tribute was, as you said, very moving.

@@VALonKZread No, Best Buy had the regular 4k with the slipcover and then they had a 4k with a comic shrink wrapped with the case then the slipcover over top of that. The comic is almost the same size as the case. I don't know if the slipcover is a little bigger to fit the comic or not, but it's not super tight. It does have a sticker that says only at Best Buy Exclusive 64-page comic. I can't remember if I ever had the VHS back in the day. Hope this helps.

Sitting somewhere around 800 4k releases with over 16k total blurays. Been getting rid of dvds and have went down from 2k to only a couple hundred left.

So the weird thing for me is on a visual aspect it's definitely an upgrade and looks fantastic but the way the movie is from an aesthetic design, style, and story the muted colors and darker look of the blu ray lends better to the film overall. But as someone who only owns this on VHS, yes I'm that old lol, the 4k is the obvious buy.

Good film, but I couldn’t take the plunge to 4K. Quite happy with the one included in the Batman boxset. That’s all I need.

I love reviews like this that cover all the bases, esp addressing aspect ratios. The 16:9’ing of everything drives me insane. I figured they had done a 4K restoration for the Blu-ray and decided to cash in and release it on UHD, but after your review, I can’t wait to rewatch this classic. Hands down my favorite Batman movie. Thanks for such a great video!

when ever I see comparisons between 1.85:1 and 1.78:1 I can't really spot the difference. Is 1.85.1 wider on the sides, taller, which one is bigger or smaller, etc. Can you explain it in simpleton terms? 😅

It's wider on the sides. There's more peripheral imagery. Think of 1.78:1 as your vision with one eye closed and 1.85:1 as your vision with both eyes open. The 1.78:1 image is a cropped image of the original.

😉So to make it simplified, 1.85.1 is my preferred aspect ratio, 1.78.1 is slightly cut down on both sides of the image! So you get to see slightly more image on 1.85:1 both right & left sides of the image over 1.78:1 slightly cut image & aspect ratio!👌 Hope this helps explain all this a little bit better!🤟 🤔Are you now excited for this new BATMAN 4K UltraHD💿 after watching my exclusive comparisons video?❓

they need to make batman and mr freeze subzero in 4k

If they can do a 4k release of MOTP, they should be able to do a 4k release of the BTAS blu ray set. This would probably be one of the few series that I would buy again for the 4k.

Yea if they do the same practice as this release. No DNR and no overly bright colors and no high compression.

It worries that something presented as 4k via streaming service is not as good as a 4k movie on a physical medium since streaming has become the way most of us watch stuff.

Classic animated movie I enjoyed since I was 11 seeing it in theaters and I own it in the Batman tas boxset on blu and now on 4k. Looks and sounds more stunning

I'm considering taking this 4K discs and replacing the Blu-ray disc of the same movie and the Animated Series box set, mostly to save shelf space, is there anybody that thinks I would be unwise to do so just looking for a second opinion

I would pay money to have a VHS version on digital. The art of hand drawn animation looks lifeless on 4K

i feel like the darker tones in the blu ray version better suits the ominous nature of the story

Honestly I love this movie but something about it just feels a little bit overrated. I love it I enjoy it but to call it one of the best Batman movies of all time I don't know... But I'm not going to argue with you if that's your choice You know what I mean

🤔So if you watch this full video, I covered & briefly explained in this video about exactly what the ORIGINAL intended theatrical aspect ratio was when it was released theatrically by WB 1.85:1. Also I explained that the animators actually had to work & expand some of the animation on both sides to fit what WB decided over a year before release to make this a theatrically released Batman film NOT a TV film anymore at that time! So this 4K💿 is the very first time on home video we have gotten the ORIGINAL INTENDED THEATRICAL aspect ratio 1.85:1 as was released originally in ALL theatres in 1993 & this is how those of us that originally went to see Batman Mask of the Phantasm in theatres had experienced watching this epic film, so it’s wonderful they did this 4K restoration very faithful to the original theatrical release & vision!👌 Hopefully this helps you to understand this better!🤟😉 Are you now excited for this new Batman 4K💿 after watching my exclusive comparisons video?❓

@@FilmFan89 I thought so. I remembered Bruce Timm talking about creating a rectangular border with some construction paper to see if they lost anything important. Studios sometimes flub the aspect ratio. Jungle Book hasn't had it's proper full aspect ratio since the late 90's DVD. The subsequent DVD and Blue Ray editions have been cropped. A shame since it's Walt Disney's last film. Wish DC would have thrown the 4:3 TV format of Phantasm on there with some enhancements and the same audio.

BTW: As is the history of this Batman movie, WB original released it in cinemas as 1.85:1 aspect & that's what everyone viewed in 1993 at cinemas & that's precisely what is on this 4K, to preserve that wider aspect!

@InSearchofPhysicalMedia I wish Warner bros discovery would Release Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island on 4k Blu-ray.

I like the transfer more than the Scooby doo and Batman beyond blu-rays they put out but I still find the grain scrubbing/ dnr to still be too much. I can’t recall but when I watched the scene with joker has some of the thick black outline removed which is similar to the issue Scooby doo had with the pass that WB gave them. It is the best it looks but still nothing to the level of animation deaf crocodile has done with animation even on blu-ray or what the previous Warner archive had done with other titles.

I’ve still got my vhs widescreen edition. So good. 🇬🇧

Why hasn't anyone gone and made the Kevin Conroy I am the Knight special available for download or have they and I'm just not finding it. Stupid Warner Bros, putting THAT special on the 4k disc and not making it available on a Blu-Ray disc.
