It's how Batman addressed Arnold and Scarface individually, and how he stopped fighting once he knew the coin landed on his safety. His understanding of the villains he faces is his true strength that makes him different from any other wannabe vigilante

You can tell Batman not only respects the strength of his enemies, he treats them like people. The compassion he shows Arnold while showing disregard and disgust to Scarface, and the desire to help his old friend in Harvey while keeping the coin away in their fight shows how he wants to win the right way.

If there's one way I've seen Batman fight that I like more than the Arkham system, it's the way he fights here. Slipping into the darkness, baiting enemies into shooting at nothing to distract themselves, using the Batmobile as a makeshift barricade to separate the grunts, the choreography (and everything else) in this animation is absolutely stellar. Plus, the voice actor for Dent balancing on insanity, switching between calm and reserved and batshit insane is incredible, his unwillingness to let the cards fall without the Coin, knocking around his own men. Great understanding of every character here. Tens across the board, and a shining example of what every person who writes Batman should try to replicate.

  • @Gabriel-mx4qc

I too liked the choreographed fight, one thing I think that would be sooo realistic ( like that how I would try to beat the ods) is for batman to drop small speakers before / during fight, now THAT o think would actually work in both stealth mode, like getting people really confuse by batman speaking from all directions, adding creepy laugh and sounds and drawing attention from set ups and movements. Combine that with some kind of gas or mist and the confusion is real. Even if they do find the equipment, the time and attention needed to investigate would be fatal. Another move I miss to se actually comes from kick as. I absolutely loved how big daddy used the electro light to confuse and momentarily blind he's opponents, that too would be such a believable and yet easy move to pull off for the dark night. After all we do all wanna belive that he could be real and things like that I think really ads to the credibility

As the coin is spinning on the floor and Two Face is fighting Batman, we only see the red part of his body, his evil side, but as soon as we hear the coin stop spinning (meaning it has landed on heads), the camera immediately pans around to his human blue side and he spares Batman. So many times he ends up be written as a man who finds crime and punches it until it doesn't get back up, but here he acts in a way that conveys his character so much better. He keeps to the shadows when necessary, he uses reason and tries to diffuse situations with words first, he doesn't inflict any brutal 10 years in the hospital kind of violence. Hes a man who truly knows his ideals, and keeps to them in all aspects of his talk, movement, and combat. The animation is mind blowing, but its the character work that I'm going be be thinking about long after this.

In this short time it also created more of a detective story than a majority of the batman content today, Gotham came to life in this animation, congratulations and I hope more comes to follow. Also, thank you for balancing Batman's underrepresented villains with the iconic I would've never thought of Harvey working with Scarface, but it makes so much sense!

Ventriloquist/Scarface is indeed a great character, his episode in *Gotham* season 5 ("Nothing's Shocking") is one of my favorites from that last season... If you want to see a live-action Scarface, for now it's the only one, except from a couple of very brief cameos in the show *Titans* . Anyway, in *Gotham* the Ventriloquist is played by the great Andrew Sellon, a real-life ventriloquist who was later made an honorary member of the International Ventriloquist Society for his work on the show. *Gotham* really is a great watch if you're a hardcore Batman enthusiast, and especially if you're a fan of his rogues gallery... between Cameron Monaghan's "Joker", Robin Lord Taylor's Penguin, Cory Michael Smith's Riddler, Alexander Siddig's Ra's al Ghul, Anthony Carrigan's Victor Zsasz, Camren Bicondova's Selina Kyle... There's just so much talent in there, that it's a shame that this show doesn't get as a much credit as other live action DC shows...

This Batman feels like a good comparison to Arkham Batman imo, the fact that he's focused on learning what's happening, staying hidden at all opportunities, and especially with just how effortless his movements look in combat it's incredible! Plus the colors in the end too, having Two-Face be literally split down the middle in red and blue is so symbolic, plus having Ventriloquist here to nail home the duality is even better. The writing and characterization of these characters is so good! Scarface and Arnold being treated as two completely separate characters, Harvey being so blinded by his ambitions and sense of justice that he loses sight of the wrongs he’s done in pursuit of his goals, yet when confronted with his own standards he still acknowledges and abides by them to a fault. Batman being so calm and collected and so aware of everything going on around him to the point he knew long before Harvey that the coin landed on heads and didn’t even blink with a gun to his head knowing Harvey won’t pull the trigger once he sees the coin’s choice

That was one of the best fan animations I’ve ever seen, well done sir! The fights was well choreographed, the elements of dark and light were soooo creative, and on top of that it was a pure tribute to our favorite shows, movies, and games of the Batman. Thank u dude Small edit, my favorite thing was you showed how well Bruce deals with criminals and victims. He was investigating a back alley murder when the cops were tasked with high-spot light case. He spoke directly to the Ventriloquist (a very obscure Batman villain, amazingly portrayed) not the puppet bc he understood his condition. And he thwarted Two-Face’s plans by executing the right amount of force until he didn’t need to anymore. That’s the biggest thing of why we like Batman- he cares for the victims, who sometimes happen to also be the perpetrators.

I love this version of Batman where he clearly has a deep knowledge of his enemies psyche and even some intimacy (probably because he's done this dozens of times) and tries to talk the "big bosses" down before going all out. I think this happens because he's more mature and understands that punching everybody in the mouth at first sight doesn't really fix the problem permanently. He can either kill them or try to change them, and Batman being Batman, he chose the second option. I also love how he's so confident in his own abilities, but not in a cocky or arrogant way (maybe a little). He exposes himself, but he knows he can just disappear in the shadows if he wants to and people won't be able to keep up. This is amazing. Thanks for this.

This is spectacular. A friend told be about this today, and I am so glad they did. From the start, the artwork is amazing. The way you manipulated the audio in different parts, to make it sound like it's coming from a tv, or a radio, or from a recording device or in an echoey building, it's so well done. The accompanying music was also so cool, it really sold the film as a whole, helped heighten the tension. And the whole message of this, the hope of Harvey's message, his promise, undercut so sharply by the reality of Gotham. By his failure, or betrayal, or just bad luck. And speaking of the reality of Gotham, the way you combined the comic world with the very real and current message of Harvey's here was so impressive. You have a puppet running drugs, but somehow it manages to add to the tension of the story, to feed into the universe, rather than taking away from it, or making it feel to silly to take seriously. The whole movement of this piece is so unique. Your use of shadows and angles emphasizes the beautifully. The way you hid Batman in the shadows during the fight scene? I can't get enough of it. Also, the moment at 5:15 where the guys sandwich falls apart? 😂 under-appreciated genius, I never would of thought of using a sandwich to show emotion. Thank you so incredibly much for sharing this. It's beautiful, and it shows such an amazing understanding of the characters. I'm sure I will be watching this many more times.

I know I posted this over a week ago but I also still have some thoughts I want to give. Just because I really did give this another watch. I sometimes forget just how perfect of a villain that two-face is to Batman. Because the thing that I like about your whole entire pilot here is that you began and ended the whole thing with 'no compromises.' it's actually so simple but effective. The thing about Batman is that he can't show compromise, When it comes to his no killing policy. He can't go through with it because he knows that if he does kill, he can't get that guilt to escape from him, it will consume him. It's the same thing with Harvey, He can't live without the coin. That's why he had to take that showcase of extremism by trying to poison the drug supply. Because he's willing to go that far because Batman simply won't. And Harvey shows the ugly side to going that far, the 'nuclear option'. When Batman said 'the people you promised to protect!' when Harvey revealed his plan... remember Harvey literally said to Arnold 'do I care?' ...no he doesn't. Harvey shows that he has abandoned his old morals and thrown them away because he was scarred for life. But it brought out the darker side of him that he kept below the surface just like we saw at the beginning of this pilot. The small twitch...Harvey didn't show his dark side but it was always there. That's what Bruce fears more then anything. Becoming like Harvey is if he abandons his old morals. Hence the title 'broken promise' I won't rant forever but I can't stress it man after seeing what Warner Bros has been doing to their own properties it makes happy to know guys like you atleast give a damn about showing how DC should do their comics even if it is abit darker I think that's it's the better option then what is happening with the MCU right now (atleast from a guy who enjoys good CONSISTENT storytelling like we saw with Matt Reeves The Batman *I am also currently enjoying Loki season 2 btw*) Anyway hope you have good day 👍🏻

This feels like an instant classic. The fact that this is a fan written original blows my mind considering how accurately it characterizes Two-Face and Batman. Two-Face's entire scheme is absolutely beautifully written and makes so much sense for his character. "If I can't control the crime, I'll control the punishment" is so painfully and fantastically in character for Harvey Dent I almost refuse to believe this wasn't written by a team of professional writers. You can so clearly see that despite doing what he genuinely believes to be the right thing to do, Harvey is absolutely insane. Batman's rogues are always at their best when their anguish and mental illness is on full display, and Batman tries to help them and reason with them anyways. Batman is always trying to save the day and the innocent people who would be affected by the villains' schemes, but even more so Batman is a character that tries to save his villains from themselves and I feel like no character represents this better than Two-Face. The inclusion of The Ventriloquist only furthers this theme. Thank you for this beautiful piece of art.

Batman tries so hard to save his mentally ill rogues, because he himself battles with mental challenges everyday. In his mind, he is TRULY BATMAN. Bruce Wayne is mask that he puts on to face the world. Everyday he has to live a life where he hides who he truly is so that he can go out and fight monsters. Every criminal he fights he has to FIGHT HIMSELF to resist the urge to kill, even just once. He emphathizes with them, because he walks that very fine line everyday. If he was a weaker man, he would've crossed it a long time ago.

Yeah, I love when they avoid the split personality concept because in a way it makes Harvey just another innocent victim of his evil alter ego. In this form, it's all Harvey's fault. You can pity him, you can understand him he'll in certain scenarios you may even support him up to a point. But still every citizen gunned down in a bank, every cop squished under a car. All of the people that get hurt because of his twisted sense of morality are his fault and that guilt feeds back into the loop.

This is one of the most beautiful scripted and animated short films I’ve ever seen. It’s not just Batman that’s important here. It’s Arnold and Harvey. First, Scarface is so amazingly portrayed here. Using psychology, we see that Arnold definitely has a real mental disorder probably DID (multiple personality disorder) and that line “man on the inside” is so shocking and hilarious it’s almost divine. Arnold is a broken mind. Harvey here is not just a villain, but a man. He’s truly two face. Also the contrast with the red and blue make the visuals so much more appealing and interesting to watch. Especially seeing the true colors using the Batmobile as a source of light and using it to animate Batman in shadow is an incredible touch. I also like the reference to the animated series, with the eyes and the ending shot. I love this Batman design it’s definitely brawler bat meets dark detective. I also love how the Batmobile looks with the red accent, not breaking the color palette of the scene. Honestly a beautiful piece of work, and while watching this I was so impressed by the quality of the animation. Thank you for creating and sharing this with the world, it was truly a masterpiece.

This is genuinely better than a lot of the stuff that has come out of the DCU recently. The animation, story, voice acting, all of it comes together amazingly. Really goes to show what putting true passion into a piece can do as opposed to making something for profit.

One of the smartest things in this is how you represent scar face, and everything he does is clearly physically controlled by Arnold, he’s not some magical entity. But he is still completely real in the sense that he is a real personality with unique motivations that exists inside Arnold’s brain. And how ,psychologically, Arnold has to literally k’ll the puppet to be free of his control, he views it like a real person and can’t just stop the act. He has to orchestrate an authentic scenario to believably terminate the doll, or he wont accept it mentally.

OK, it's pretty much not possible to respond to every comment now, so let me just say a HUGE THANK YOU to each and every one of you. And especially to anyone who told their friends, shared the link around, tweeted, did reaction videos. You are all beyond awesome and we appreciate you! This is two years of my life, and lots of love and hard work by the cast and (literally tiny) crew, and really all I wanted from it was for Batman fans to feel like it represented the character well. And to see such positive feedback, it's quite overwhelming. Thank you. If you want to support the film, please do continue to tell other people, share the link to this KZread channel, tweet about the film, use the hashtag #batmanbrokenpromise , write reviews, do reaction videos, send it to other reactors or comic book lovers. Also, fly on over to @clairewritesmusic where our composer Claire Wickes is releasing the original score track by track. Like, subscribe, show her some love. She rocks! Also, I'll be posting BTS and artwork on Instagram and TikTok, so watch out for that. We really do want as many Batfans to see it as possible. On the flip side, PLEASE DO NOT rip and repost the video (clips or indeed wholesale) on other channels or sites without our permission. If you want to support us, react to the video or share the link and send people here. Thanks again so much for your lovely reactions to our work, it really makes it all worth it. Stephen Trumble. 🦇

Best Batman movie I ever seen. Motion was flawless. Dialogue was excellent. Harvey showed he could go toe to toe with the Dark Knight if properly motivated. We need more of this, and maybe DC will stand alone in status telling and superheroes in general.

What an absolutely pure work of fan admiration. I loved every second of it. Every animation, every little detail, the color, the style, the sound design, the voice acting. It was all perfect. The story was just phenomenal, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it other than I wish this was a show or storyline adapted to live action or otherwise. This is a perfect depiction. I saw somewhere in these comments that the man himself would be proud to voice it and I think he'd be proud of it as a whole and do it for free. I can hear is voice in it. It's phenomenal. What a genius piece of fan work. Thank you for that! 15mins I'm glad to have spent here. Subbed.
