    Fun fact. The Dark Knight tie in game eventually morphed into Shadow of Mordor. They were ready to go and start full production on the game but before they could they needed the go-ahead directly from Nolan himself, and he either straight up said no or he didn't get back to them. I'm thinking it's the latter lol. So eventually they turned it into Shadow of Mordor, another WB property. EDIT: Nevermind I got it mixed up. Monolith were working on a game based on the entire trilogy not just that movie.

    DC going too hard on edgelord angst isn't the Dark Knight trilogy's fault, it's DC's fault for picking the wrong lessons from those movies. The finished Snyder Cut is gonna suck, it's just Justice League with BvS' tryhard edgelord angst.

    I may have put the DCEU on too high of a pedestal. I remember back in 2016 where I was very defensive towards Batman V. Superman and Suicide Squad. Mainly because they were movies that I enjoyed in the moment (a.k.a, I was mostly enthralled by the action scenes and cared less about everything else) and just to spite people that liked Ghostbusters 2016 (I mellowed out since then, and stopped being spiteful, despite still not liking the movie but respecting people that do), looking back I saw why people were so negative towards those movies. As they have a lot of issues regarding tone, story progression, and sequel baiting.

  • @Darklordjadow1

    @Darklordjadow1

    4 жыл бұрын

    I kinda had the reverse arc on Ghostbusters 2016. I thought the movie was fine and thought the backlash against it was stupid and overblown... then I found out the movie went into production without a script. Melissa McCarthy has a history of making awful script-less improv "comedies", and by this point someone in her orbit should know better. I don't dislike Ghostbusters 2016, but I am not going to expend any further energy sticking up for it.

  • @senakashiwazaki9822

    @senakashiwazaki9822

    While I can agree that the backlash was overblown to proportion, I still consider it a bad movie. It's tonally inconsistent, the characters had no common sense, the jokes drag for way too long, the celebrity cameos and pop culture references were forced as hell, the pacing made the whole thing boring to watch, and the climax was a total CGI clusterfuck that makes the Electro fight from Amazing Spider-Man 2 look like the climax from Terminator 2. Still, it wasn't right for me to stand up for BvS, which suffers from similar issues.

It was going to be an openworld Batman game following the movie and having unique open-ended gameplay and an batmobile driving years before Arkham did anything like that. Yeah I said this on Zack Synder; I get that he was undergoing a family crisis and studio interference... But all the trash talking he did about BvS was him. Jack Snyder, like many directors/producer/execs, chose to get aggressive in response to criticism. He was very dismissive about people being unhappy at Batman being shown killing people, saying the idea that he'd never do so (either intentionally or by accident) was 'unrealistic'. Because clearly realism is important in a movie that features; a solar powered alien who can fly, an immortal demigoddess from a secret island and a monster somebody made with an abandoned spaceship. Now I'm curious to see what the Synder cut results in, but I doubt it will magically make the DCEU the equal of the MCU. Solid review of a less than solid game. May the YT algorithm show mercy.

  • @FraserSouris

    @FraserSouris

    3 жыл бұрын

    The realistic part of Snyder's films was more about the beliefs, petsonality and people rather than litteraly being realistic. Look at Superman in Man of Steel and BvS, yes. He's an invincible alien that can Fly..... but the film explores the human side of him. He doubts his purpose, he asks him mom for advice etc because of the circumstances of the world. It would be realistic for someone like Clark to suddenly start to wonder if he's doing the right thing. In the case of Batman, his deal is the after bring Batman for 20 years, sering his allies either die or turn against him, he's started to lose sight of his original mission. It would be realistic for someone like Bruce Wayne to start slipping given all the trauma he's been through. And the film incorporates that as his arc of learning he was on the wrong path and setting out to redeem himself.

    I'm glad that you bought up the "cool to hate" rep that the Nolan Batman films have gotten recently and why it is total bollocks, although I do think the popularity of the MCU also kind of has something to do with that too, I swear for a few years any superhero film that wasn't light like "The Avengers" was often labelled "joyless" like they were Ang Lee's "Hulk" or the Snyder's DCEU films. Luckily this mindset has kind of died off once "Logan" and Netflix's "Daredevil" was gaining popularity. Hell, the issue witht he Snyder films isn't that they are "dark", the issue is like how I think most of Phase 3 of the MCU seems to have been learning all the wrong lessons from Whedon and Gunn with how so many of them have this joke quota that takes me out of scene or hinders a film from being anything great (*cough Thor Ragnarok *cough) without understanding why the humour benefited those films. Snyder's DCEU films simply didn't know the difference between dark and angst and it really shows as you watch them since you don't actually have a good grapse on the characters. Luckily DC actually seems to have finally learned their lessons and know what tone would fit for which character or the story they want to tell whether it is dark like "Joker", light like "Shazam!", over the top with adventure like "Aquaman" or even well balanced like "Wonder Woman"/ "Justice League" and "Birds of Prey" not withstanding.

    I don't think that will ever be a fair comparison because the theatrical cut of Justice League is no one's film. Not Whedon's, not Snyder's. It's a Frankenstein-esque hodgepodge of scenes cobbled together in a desperate, pathetic attempt to win back general audiences after alienating them with BVS.

    Great review 😊 I remember the trailers for this game and was kinda excited for it. Then I saw a review for it on X-Play (wow I'm old lol) and thought "eh, I'm good". After playing the Arkham games (cept for Knight, haven't finished that), Spider-Man Ps4, and other superhero games that have exceeded above and beyond in quality in all the right areas, not much point going to this game these days is it? Hell, I think even back when it first came out it went with a whimper. As for the whole "Snyder Cut" going on, this is nothing new. Filmmaker tries to make a movie, unfortunate events happen which hamper the movie's production, and everyone else is scrambling to get it finished to meet a release date and make money back on investment. It's happened with Blade Runner and Apocalypse Now and it's no different here. Difference is that at least with those 2 movies you can appreciate the visual style, performances, themes, production design, ideas, and everything else that went into em before they got botched due to studio interference or other nonsense, plus they had directors who tried to make the material coherent. And at least any version of those movies are watchable for their own reasons. Other good examples of good director's cuts are Alien and Aliens, in the sense it's just extra good icing on an already delicious cake: not necessary, but awesome nonetheless. Zack Snyder's DC movies are not coherent. Man of Steel, while having some merit, is Batman Begins mixed with Bay's Transformers and a limp attempt at it. BvS, while also having some merit as well, is just boring and try hard edgelordness while also constantly sequel baiting. Everyone involved with these movies would've saved time if they just said "we never planned for a cinematic universe, our bad", but they won't. The theatrical version of Justice League is fine, but it's clearly a rushed out mess and not exactly worth revisiting, unless it's for memes or something. The Ultimate Edition of BvS was just 30 more minutes to an already boring movie and it'll be no different with JL. Even though his early work had issues and some warning signs, they're still rewatchable and memorable, not so much for his later work. And in the end, what'll really be accomplished? That fanboys will get their desperate wishes fulfilled? Corporations parading something around to advertise for their streaming service when they don't have anything ready for it yet other than previously aired material? Filmmakers outta touch with the material and audiences that get their "vision" realized when it probably wasn't that good to begin with? Who knows.

    The way you describe the DCEU movies sums up my thoughts on the recent Star Wars movies (yes, even setting aside fan outrage aside, I still hate these movies) in a nutshell. The Force Awakens was a retread of A New Hope with the aesthetics of Star Trek 2009, with a boring lead character and vague plotpoints that are null and void after the next two movies. The Last Jedi was a boring and pretentious movie that felt longer than it actually is. The characters were superfluous and annoying, the fight scenes were sloppy, and the constant "subversions" pretty much make everything a confusing mess with an inconsistent tone. And The Rise of Skywalker is a lazy, pandering, tedious slog of a finale that tries to "fix" everything people hated about TLJ, while making their own problems and contrived nonsense, something I'm going to assume the Snyder Cut will end up being once it comes out.

    I understand your points, but I gotta disagree with ya there. Force Awakens had echoes of A New Hope in order to evoke the same kind of excitement, wonder, and awe that movie had when Star Wars was just brand new, and it worked, at least for me cuz I saw that five times in the theater and loved it more every single time. It also took plenty of twists and turns to make it similar yet also different. It was the shot in the arm Star Wars needed to be big again, just like Trek 09 did for Star Trek, because the franchise couldn't live on spinoff media alone, as awesome as a lot of them are. And unlike Star Trek 2009, it didn't have lens flares. Last Jedi left me "stumped" when I first saw it, but the more I thought about it, the more I loved it, and it's probably my 2nd favorite Star Wars movie next to Empire Strikes Back. It was a thoughtful and meditative movie, kinda slow but also had plenty of action, story, and depth to keep things exciting and interesting. Rise of Skywalker has its problems, mostly due to it being rushed with the director getting fired and having way too fast of a pace, and the constant comparisons people keep making between it and Avengers: Endgame are ANNOYING. Yes, they're both big movies put out by Disney and came out in the same year, but it's also unfair to put one on such a high pedestal and dismiss another for, what, not being on a high pedestal? It's just ridiculous. RoS ain't perfect, but it doesn't have to be, and I like it for that.

    And not all of the DCEU movies are bad. Wonder Woman is the kind of movie the DCEU should base itself on, Aquaman is a fun and colorful adventure flick, and Shazam! is about just harkening to when you're a kid and being a superhero while learning the meaning of family. Suicide Squad is basically the DC equivalent to The Expendables (the first movie), both good and bad, and I hope James Gunn's followup is at least both coherent and an improvement.

    @@ryantanner48 I understand your feelings regarding the movies. Star Wars in general can be ridiculous at times, which is part of the fun, though it does border on some overly cartoonish stuff depending on who's doing it, what story is it, and how they do it (Holiday Special and the prequel trilogy come to mind). Hell, even when A New Hope came out back in 1977 there was criticism that it was too much of a childish movie amongst more grounded character dramas like Taxi Driver and others. So I can see where you're coming from and you do you. As for the fanbase, yeah there's no doubt it has its light and dark side like anything else. Hell, just watch Maj0r Lee's video on the "Fandom Menace" to give you a better idea (seriously what kind of group name is that, other than being a "menace to the fandom"). But there's also good people too and I think it can be easy to overlook that.

The movie just drops the supposed plot threats for bland pointless destruction for the sake of shock value hoping the audience doesn't realize none of those themes ever did anything. -All that talk about Superman's relationship with humanity? Doesn't comes up a single time, they completely forget that and just have Superman and Zod demolish Metropolis then never address it. The ENTIRE movie Superman has zero interaction with people, he even goes out of his way to avoid them. Talking to a cookie cutter military guy ONCE doesn't suddenly make everyone love Superman. -All that talk from John Kent about having to hide Clark's powers? That plot thread goes completely out of the window with no payoff. -Kal-El having the freedom to decide his path in life? Nope, literally the same scene where Jor-El says that he immediately tells Kal he has to be Superman and Kal never gets a choice in the matter. -The Jesus symbolism? Shallow bullcrap that's even less subtle than the Matrix. -The fate of Krypton? The Kryptonians are idiots that stay on a planet they know will explode even though they were directly established to be able to colonize other planets plus Zod could've just terraformed literally any planet in the galaxy.

    Sorry dude, I hated the Second one. It basically was SAW: the Batman movie. It had this super-genius whose implausible plans worked because the Plot said they would, right down to the first plan where everyone killed each other just because a note said they should and this bus pulling out into New York school traffic because... it did. And then This improbable plan just worked and this plan just worked and this plan just worked... it was Saw. And it was boring for the same reasons you hated Batman Returns, the Jigsawjoker was just so powerful that no-one could stand in his way because the plot said so. (Except I liked Batman Returns because the acting in that movie was fantastic and the themes were something I could relate to, whereas everyone seemed slightly bored and "i have to act this way because plot" in this one) As for that conversation he had with twoface - everyone thinks he was telling the truth and explaining himself and hos philosophy to twoface - when in fact he was lying. You think that gun he gave twoface was loaded? The master planner Jigsawjoker wouldn't have risked his life and plans on a coin flip. He was tossing a bunch of lies at Twoface to make him his "ace in the hole" as he said later in the movie. So, if you don't buy the massive intelligence of the Jigsawjoker or buy into the Jigsawjokers lies to twoface, the film turns into a boring movie where everything the badguy wants to happen happens because everyone is reading the script or is bloody stupid. "Oh, the plot worked because The World's Greatest Detective is retarded for this scene. How shocking." And, just to prove its impression on me, I never bothered with the third Nolan movie because it left that much of a bad taste in my mouth. And I liked the first Nolan Movie, so go figure. Rant over.

    I didn't like Dark Knight for these reasons: Joker is an annoying, nasally, holier-than-thou hypocrite who has _barely_ any relation to any proper version of Joker, Two-Face was written very flimsily, the movie felt like a college thesis disguised as a comicbook movie, & it had no comicbook-ish tone to it whatsoever. It was just a generic crime drama with a guy in a batsuit & a dude wearing crappy clown makeup that took far too much time in the daylight. As for Joker, the writers constantly tried to have their cake & eat it too by saying "Oh, he's just a raving psycho who doesn't care if he lives or dies & does everything he does just because he can.", but then immediately turn around & give him this grand philosophy about the fragility of the human will & spirit & have him scheme up these ridiculously convoluted plans that all require him to still be alive, & for someone who claims that he "just _does_ things," he sure gets ticked off when his plans don't go the way they ought to, almost like he actually _wants_ things to turn out a certain way, & for someone who decries "schemers" for how pathetic they are in "trying to control their little worlds," he has an infinite amount of schemes that he uses to attempt to control people into agreeing with his perception of his own little world. Regarding Two-Face, my biggest complaint with him is that he somehow bought Joker's utter bullcrap about "schemers" & "according to plan" nonsense. Yes, he was in grief, but if he was realistically written, the _micro second_ Joker handed him the gun, Harvey would've pulled the trigger on Joker.

    Starting this thing off with ticking off those that liked the first two Tim Burton movies. Great...😑

    I honestly wasn't a fan of those either. The 89 Batman movie has its charm, but I honestly can't find any enjoyment out of Returns.

    The Snyder Cut is DC facing desperation. And it shows, given how poorly done the Snyderverse was and the other crappy alter-verse stuff like Batwoman and Gotham High. Not to mention the overly divisive Birds of Prey movie, which I call the "slightly better version of Suicide Squad." The only thing DC has going forward was the Harley Quinn cartoon and the Joker movie.

    From the sounds of it the Snyder Cut is more AT&T's desperation; it sounds like they're mandating it because they saw The Mandalorian and wanted a high profile exclusive to draw HBO Max subscriptions. At least the Aquaman, Shazam, and Wonder Woman movies did well and are getting sequels... or would have sequels already if it weren't for Covid-19

    @@Darklordjadow1 Yeah, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Shazam did perfectly fine, mainly because these movies worked as standalone films and didn't rush worldbuilding, like how BvS did.
