It really is. For all the menace, violence, murder/mass genocide etc the Joker has done, The Killing Joke somewhat succeeds in making the reader have a sense of pity for him. At least for me it did.

It's ok. Have you read "The Killing Joke", because Joker's attack on her was part of the story, along with Joker photographing her body, etc. It also provides a background for the Joker (a very tragic one at that). I HIGHLY recommend it if you are a Batman fan, and even more if you are a Joker fan.

It wasn't really a fight. Barbara heard a knock at her apartment door. She opened it, and the Joker was standing in the doorway. Before she could react, Joker shot her (not sure where), which paralyzed her from the waist down. In order to drive Comissioner Gordon over the edge, Joker then photographed her bleeding body on the floor and sent it to him. After recovery and obviously seeing that she could no longer be Batgirl, Barbara took on the mantle of Oracle.
