Mike was partly right, DC was thinking of canceling Batman due to declining sales. A Fox exec. went to the Playboy mansion where Hef, and the girls were watching the old Batman serials in his home theater, cheering, and throwing popcorn at the screen. When the exec. went to work the next day, he told Fox the story, they contacted Bob Kane who had also wanted to be a movie star, he agreed as long as he could come out to La La land. So Hugh Hefner saved Batman. And now you know...

BTW, I recommend the animated movies "Return of the Caped Crusaders" and especially "Batman Vs. Two Face" which are wonderful returns to the world of the 66 series, featuring Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar returning to the roles, as well as William Shatner as Two Face. I had a goofy stupid smile on my face the whole time watching them.

Now we can have multiple funny light-hearted Batmans, but it did upset me that Return of the Caped Crusader and Batman v Two-Face were being slept on in comparison to the LEGO Batman movie that came out at the same time. Like LEGO Batman is great, don’t get me wrong, but it felt like to me people purposefully avoided the other two, and that’s just not cool, man.

But that 89 batmobile was unlike anything anyone had ever seen before. And without a doubt set the standard and made the template for literally every batmobile we have seen since. Not so much so in looks but in design basically being like an armored tank with crazy weapons and abilities.

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane posted a remembrance of West on Twitter shortly after the Batman actor’s death. “Family Guy has lost its mayor, and I have lost a friend,” MacFarlane wrote. “Adam West was a joy to work with, and the kind of guy you always wanted to be around. His positivity, good nature, and sense of fun were undeniable, and it was always a big jolt of the best kind of energy when he walked in to record the show. He knew comedy, and he knew humanity. I am beyond fortunate to have had the privilege of working with him, and he will be profoundly missed by all of us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have given, Mr. Mayor. One of my favorite Batman moments is a 3rd Season (?) episode, just a 30 minute one (no two parter) with King Tut. A woman is kidnapped and Bruce was going to go out with her on a date. Batman saves the day. At the end of the episode, Bruce takes her back to her apartment after the date, and she asks him if he want to come in for a drink. Naturally, he declines. Then she offers him milk and cookies! He accepts, turns to the camera and breaking the 4th wall, says "Well, man can't live by crimefighting alone..." and goes in! Awesome!

This show is possibly my favourite iteration of Batman. I love a good ol’ self parody. My favourite part of the show is definitely Adam West, who plays it straight and with such dedication that you believe every word that comes out of his mouth. What I feel they did wrong in Batman And Robin as opposed to this show was that the jokes on the show weren’t made as if they wanted a laugh track, whereas B&R demanded a ‘bu dum dum bush’ with a drum beat and symbols. My favourite villains are probably: The Joker, The Riddler, Catwoman (Eartha Kitt was great), and The Penguin (who actually appeared in the most episodes of the whole show). I also really liked Roddy McDowell’s Bookworm from Season 1.

Love to see what they think of the "Transylvania Twist" super cheesy movie, that came out before "Dracula: Dead and Loving It", and before Scary Movie, parody with Angus Scrimm parodying his character from Phantasm. The DVD seemed to have deleted scenes that hadn't seen in the HBO version, such as a song in the stage coach.

It's silly, it's Campy but that was the thing of the '60s. Still one of the best Batman series, and was my introduction to it thanks to my Dad and copious reruns. I love the more dark Batman series, but the 60's Batman deserves respect.

I think I might've seen the Batmobile from the show in person once... they brought it to my school back in kindergarten. We weren't given any info, the Batmobile just showed up on the playground one day. Of course, it might've been a replica, definitely more likely.

I think another reason younger generations disregard the series is them having watched the dark knight trilogy in the wake of the two Schumacher films (the less said the better). The leap in quality is obviously undeniable. Older people who maybe grew up with the 90s animated series may also have the viewpoint that even as a cartoon, something normally associated with children, Batman HAS to be dark and serious in tone to be good and captivating.
