A very common question I get is “Toto has so many toilets. My plumber said to get a Toto toilet but which one should I get?” That’s a fair question since not all Toto toilets work the same. It’s important to know the differences and what to expect. Watch the video to find out all you need to know.

This man is so clear, informative, easy to listen to. For weeks, I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of Todo will give me excellent quality without using too much of my budget. Have read manuals, spec sheets, catalogs, reviews. Just too many features and info too scattered to make a confident decision. (Installing 5 toilets in new house). This man just clarified my choices, in 5 minutes time. Thank you!

Drake II? How do you like it? I need a new toilet. I have an old, cheapest AS round toilet not flushing well at all now. Not even a piece of TP. Plumber said I could buy a new toilet, but if issue is venting, it won’t help. The toilet in the other bathroom is literally on the other side of the wall. They share the same vent. It flushes fine. My issue is the master bathroom is tiny and a 36” door BARELY clears the current round toilet to the point it takes plumbers a couple hours to find the sweet spot so it won’t leak and door clearing. Plumber last week put in new wax rings as I had a leak. Two days later, it’s leaking. Toto seems to have the shortest ROUND toilets between them, Kohler snd AS by 1/2” or more. I think this is what I need to get in the wax rings correctly for proper sill AND allow the door to clear.

Very good information. Just one small correction, the 3.5 gallon per flush toilets were introduced in the mid 1980s. The 1.6 gallon per flush toilets arrived in the mid 1990s as a result of federal legislation (EPACT of 1992).

At 7:23 you mentioned a clockwise rotation but the under rim water passages show a counterclockwise direction, and diagrams indicate the same thing (side view: clockwise , overhead view: counterclockwise). I think these are mistakes that were overlooked in the editing phase. Diagrammatic mistakes of this kind can also be seen in some turbocharger and jet turbine illustrates and animations. Please clarify.

Hi, Dave. Great video. We unfortunately can't use the elongated size due to bathroom space, so we are looking at the round Drake II. Almost all reviews on the Drake II refer to the elongated. Will the round perform just as well as the elongated? I didn't know if the shape would effect the bowl sides cleanliness of the flush system. Thanks for your reply.

And, I don't like the fill valves which are unique $50 and were available by mail only! The 50-year old model is great -- I keep a filled 2 liter bottle in the thank it to save water. The bottle occasionally tips but otherwise it's been great. Looking to replace the other 2 asap. Toto is looking good. Can I get the fill and or flush valves off the shelf?

    4 жыл бұрын

***this is a long reply so please read all the way through*** Amy Pennington I suppose that depends on if you’re talking about the Drake or the Drake II and the ultramax or the ultramax ii. From a flushing performance perspective The original Drake is the same flushing system as the original ultramax they both use E-max. But the drake is a two-piece toilet. One piece like the ultramax is better, it lasts longer less prone to leaks. The Drake II and the Ultramax II use the updated double cyclone flush, which flushes more cleanly than the E-max. And again the Ultramax II is a one piece toilet as opposed to the Drake II which is a two-piece. A sidenote to keep in mind is that all of the II series double cyclone toilets are also taller “universal height” seats. Which most people prefer. The short answer to your question is if I was looking for the best possible flush and the sturdiest toilet it would be the Ultramax II. See link below. amzn.to/2stybIs

The Toto Drake II is dual flush with a 1.6 gallon maximum. It is the best toilet that I have owned but it is still not perfect. Crude to say, but there are still bowl stains after a major event. Anyway, the Toto Drake II has a larger spillway ( pipe diameter) that most toilets. It helps. In the old days, the toilets flushed with 3 gallon tanks so the siphon action was enormous; not so with the lower capacities. Conservations laws have limited these capacities so we are all stuck with lower performing toilets. I was so aggravated by dealing with clogs that I thoroughly researched the subject. Hell... I am an expert!

Great question! The Ultramax II is a one piece toilet with a standard height in the back on the tank. It uses the double cyclone flush. You can buy it here: amzn.to/2XTxQOb The Supreme II is the exact same toilet with a lower back. You can buy it here: amzn.to/32PQg14 The Carlyle II is exactly like the Ultramax II except it has the clean skirt on the side, I’ve installed plenty with the unifit rough in and it actually gives as good, or maybe better seal than a regular toilet on a wax ring. It’s definitely easier to put on and get right the first time. I remember the first toilet I ever installed, I ruined a few wax rings before I got on there right. I wish it had the Unifit. hello.. your thoughts on the Toto Ultramax 1.6? thanks joe

  • @RemodelMedia

The original Ultramax uses a G max technology. The new Ultramax II (which is a 1.28gpf) uses the newer tornado 🌪 flushing technology. I have both types in my house and I say that they perform equally well. However my preference is for the tornado because the tornado gets dirty less. It has a cleaner flush.

O... is the price for the II more expensive? I see that the Ultra is alittle over 500 here in NYC at HomeDepot.. that's pushing my $$ limit but I would prefer the strongest flush.. ty again . Joe

I see that the specs for the Ultramax and the II height is almost 17" without seat.. My needs is that the height be no more than 15".... Can you make a suggestion on a toilet that's equal to the Ultra II that is no highier than 15"?

Then in that case if you need the lower seat then the original Ultramax is the best one for you. Most toilet brands are going to a taller seat. For the record you should be able to pick up the Ultramax II for around $485 if you shop around.

Hi Dave, we are trying to decide between the Drake II 1.28 and the 1.0. It will be an elongated, standard rough in model. Here in Toronto, it’s about a $30 up charge for 1.0, which is not a big deal. Which of those two models, would you choose for your own home, at the present time? Thanks.

I have used both on projects recently and in either case both toilets got rave reviews. All things being equal my first choice would be the 1.28, unless you’re in a drought area, but I doubt Toronto has any water shortages. Another thing to consider is do you get a rebate from your city for using “green products”? Check with your local utility company. If that were the case maybe I would go with 1.0.

@@RemodelMedia I always test by not allowing the float to stop the water flow so that the water will rise above the overflow tube. In my case (Toto Drake) the water would have overflowed the tank so I slowed the flow rate at the shut-off to ensure the overflow tube could handle that rate. I say this because, years ago, I had a neighbor that had a toilet with the big ball & lever type fill valve. When they returned from a short holiday they discovered that the ball had come unscrewed from the lever (rod) and the tank had been spilling water over the top onto the floor, down to the kitchen below, etc., etc. There was a LOT of water damage! I decided to test mine and, sure enough, it would have done the same thing with the shut-off valve wide open. Ever since then, when opening the shut-off I always test. By the way, great channel - I subbed.

Sirs, there's little doubt that Toto toilets are nice, but for twice the price or more, they should be. I bought a Lowes toilet and it works fine. A toilet isn't computer science.

1 gal per flush won't carry the poo and paper away from your house and it will get stranded creating a clogged drain. Were lucky if 1.6 gpf can

I’ll keep that in mind. Many people find plumbing material dry (no pun intended) so I try to make it an easy pill to swallow. However in retrospect I agree and going forward I have tried to minimize the punchlines. As far as the audio you mentioned on the other episode. I apologize. That was one of the very first episodes I ever filmed so the audio is a little out of whack. But thank you for the feedback and thanks for watching. You said you have a serious problem.
