It actually is. They released this song around the time that Miley Cyrus was partying really hard. All of the lyrics are relating back to Billy Ray Cyrus, her dad and older country music star. "Don't break his heart, his achy breaky heart, I just don't think he'll understand" is a riff off of Billy Ray's song from the '80s or '90s. Then with the lyrics changed from, "Remember only God can judge us" to "Remember only Dad can judge us". It was a pretty ballsy song to release at the time, bringing attention to the fact that she was doing some dangerous things and she has a father who loves her and would hate to lose her.

I like the transition to achy breaky heart. He's kinda cute when he almost laugh. So funny really!

This has got to be one of the best covers ever done in the Live Lounge.

What a fun cover. Changing the lyrics from "only god can judge us" to "only dad can judge us" then later referencing this by using "achey breaky heart" was a clever choice. also clever was the use of the lion king's "just can't wait to be king" as a musical cue to miley cyrus's disney background. tying the song with eminem's 'lose yourself' was a smart way to start.

Perfectly summed up. Good catch on the Lion King reference. I knew it sounded familiar but couldn't place it. A fun little party song that suddenly turns into a tragic commentary on her antics. This is one of the reasons I like the Live Lounge covers.

I really love how he lets his accent shine through. I know he is british but as an Australian it really annoys me when I hear british/Australian etc singers put on an american accent in songs. It sounds so much more natural and ‘soulful’ idk how to explain it.

Well, most people actually don't have an accent when they're singing. Unless they have a very noticeable and heavy accent otherwise it often gets "drowned out" so to speak. In short "American" is a very easy and neutral accent to sing in, you just don't have to really think about what words you're saying since "generic American" can often be considered English without an accent, therefore it's also easier to pick up that accent when you aren't a native English speaker.

Paikea Kehlani Most people lose their accents while singing. Dan has a very strong accent and pronounces a lot of his vowels more strongly then others. People like Adele who sound American don’t have as strong of an accent or learned to sing through an ‘American accent’.

I know what you mean - I like when I can hear accents in singing. One very noticeable British accent is Yungblud!!! I love hearing his "fook" and his /f/ sound for his /th/ sounds! I also really appreciate that he says "mate" and "cheers luv for last night" in Ploygraph Eyes.

I literally was JUST saying this on.... shit, whatever video I was watching right before it led me to this one 😂 I said the exact same thing, that I love that he doesn't try to flatten his accent EVER and in fact tries to accentuate it more. It is one of those things you hear when your radio is turned down low but you still hear just that small characteristic and know EXACTLY who's on. 🥰

Can't believe this happened 6 yrs ago! I remember when this vid came out, i watched it so many times! and it was only like two months before my first Bastille concert, it got me so excited! Now I'm gonna see them again this summer, they're actually coming to my hometown and playing at Malakoff Rockfestival in july! Best summer ever!😍

You can! Maybe not on mobile... but definitely on PC! Although i'm not sure it's 100% legal there are websites that allow you to download an MP3 of a youtube video (not that I have ever used any of them ;), then you can add the mp3 to spotify through the local files option

I disagree with those complaining about great artist making cover of a pop singer or whatever else, because the great idea behind R1LL, to me, is exactly reinventing mediocre songs into really good ones, proving that musicians MAKE the actual difference. Bastille can cover everything.

It's not turning a mediocre song into a good one. It's just changing the style. We Can't Stop is a perfectly good pop song and is fun to listen to. I wouldn't put this version on at a party or driving around like I would with the original. But I would guess that you (and most people here) like Bastille better than you like Miley Cyrus, so when you hear a song in Bastille's style you prefer it to Miley Cyrus' style.

I'm just noticing a difference between attitudes. I largely prefer Bastille's. Then, of course, if yo judge music on easy-listening, Miley surely is. I tried and tried to listen to her performance. she has a good voice, but nothing in it. Simply some people search for something more. It's a personal choice. Id' prefer this version in every situation to the original one.

I love that he appropriates his accent and is not afraid of showing it.

Bastille's rustic deep voice just suits this song so well. Way better than any other cover or dare I say it, the original.

It's weird how people don't realize that "english" is called english because it's originally from England so brit english is standard english. actually rest of the world that speak english have different accents and YES even Americans do literally considering the hallmark of english language and first english speakers.
