BASS BONG (its big)

Музыка

Vlog documentary of designing and building a "Bass Bong" - a 3 button midi input device that also outputs the audio you play into a subwoofer contained inside, so you can feel, and shape, the thump.
This project serves as an introduction to using the Arduino architecture to produce MIDI capable devices, and is in a series of videos on experimenting with the human mouth and the way it can shape foreign sounds.

I would like to thank Image-Line for gifting me a copy of FL Studio to play with. Not sponsored. Check it out at: www.image-line.com/
I would also like to thank the contributors of the MIDIUSB library for Arduino, no doubt their contributions have helped shaped a thousand artists. github.com/arduino-libraries/...

I love this, such a fun idea! some (unsolicited) advice: look into how to optimize design for 3d printing, try to avoid stuff like extreme overhang angles, a soft rule is to keep the maximum overhang angle to 45 degrees for the cleanest bottom surfaces. if you need something more extreme it's probably better to use supports, but I usually try to design to avoid them :) for your synth sound I would recommend something with less of a filter/more of a pure square or sawtooth wave, the mouth resonates at higher frequencies and a low pass filter cuts those higher frequencies out. which is something I believe the bass knob also does from the subwoofer, usually those knobs cutoff the higher frequencies so the subwoofer only focuses on the deeper sounds while your regular speakers can do the higher sounds, so I think ideally for the most mouth resonance sounds the cutoff should be as high as possible. if you look at something like a talkbox, when the tube is in the players mouth they still keep their mouth open so that the resonating sounds can escape, so when you're playing it would probably be ideal that you don't create a complete seal around the mouthpiece with your lips. also there's a ton to experiment with in terms of shape of the tube since all of that affects the resonance. try to keep it as modular as possible in order to be able to iterate between shapes faster. really looking forward to seeing revision 2!
