basketweave leather stamping

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

small leather goods.
In this video, I am going to show you how I do basketweave stamping on a key wallet I am working on.
The key wallet is simple, two pieces of 1.5mm thick veg tan cow leather glued together, with a brass trigger snap, and a D-ring loop for the keys, and a snap for closure.
However, this video is not about how the key wallet is made, but how the stamping is done instead.
I hope I can show you how I do it by showing you step by step.
Hope you enjoy!!!

    Hi Gary, thanks for sharing the video. I like to basket weave stamping too. However I am still trying to figure out how to darken the lines so than stamps stand out. Do you have any idea?

  • @garyipip

    @garyipip

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Francis Lee Thank you!!! For the areas that you want to darken, try apply many coatings of neatsfoot oil with a small brush, carefully like painting... apply as many coatings as you needed, until you are satisfied. The other way is to use dye, but you will have to be very careful about dye, because it can't go back once messed up!!!

    +garyipip, Excellent work sir. I like the way you do your videos. Great camera management and lighting as well as concise content and educational. I've been trying to find something to do since forced early retirement due to a disabling accident. Your videos have inspired me to once again try my hand at leatherwork. I've dabbled in this craft in the past but now I have plenty of time to kill. For some reason your key wallet immediately reminds me of my grandfather. It looks like a challenging enough project for me and a great gift for my aging dad. Is the design yours or is the template available online somewhere. I'm sure there are many key wallet designs but this particular one brings back memories. I've subscribed and will try to learn from you. Thank you for taking the time to share your skills with the world.

    Alex Vidal Thank you Alex!!! I am glad you found it helpful!!! I didn't make a pattern for this one, I measured the length and width I need and have the shape cut out in the approximate. I guess if you are going to make one, you may also measure the length of your keys along with the key ring attached to determine the total length you need; and how many keys you are going to have inside for the width. Always leave more space that you need for the snap, I have learnt it the hard way!!! I learn more after each and every time I made something new!!! Happy stitching...!!!
