There are literally hundreds of different textures that you can create based off of what you normally draw. Everyone is going to have their own set of textures that they will use. You can also always go on google and look up pencil textures to give you ideas of different ways to go about drawing.
Pencil textures is an effective way to create realistic details without the painful process of drawing each and every little details. Textures are there as a short cut of sorts to help bring a long the drawing process more smoothly. Once your knowledge and understanding of textures increases, you will be able to combine and change them on the fly to create new textures to suite your needs for drawing.
I hope you all enjoy this video everyone and keep up the practice! Thanks a lot for watching everyone!

+Laura Reid I find that he is doing the same with me! I've spent an abundance of time in my childhood drawing and coloring. As I got older, I became distant to it but art is showing up in a lot of places for me lately and it's making me want to use and exercise my talent!

Tyler you’re adding so much to my life! As I approach 60 it seems the right time to get started on a bucket list. Not being wealthy, it had to be a realistic list. Much to my surprise drawing made the list. I set out to find examples and tutorials and am delighted to have found your channel! I’ve now watched several of your tutorials and not only do I learn from each one but I also enjoy them😊 Thank you!

I haven't done too many still life drawings so my experience with them is somewhat limited. Just take your time with it and try and get your overall placement of objects as close to the real thing as you can. After you get the initial line work done, I find that the details and textures sort of fill in themselves. Congrats on being a semi-finalist! I have never had such an honor so I bet you must be really happy about that. Best of luck!

Great video. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful artwork as well, it really helped in showing how you could actually use the technicals in a 'real drawing'. And pointillism is actually very therapeutic even if it is time consuming. Also called 'stippling' in ink drawing, it can have a beautiful effect. (Big Roy Lichenstein fan over here.)

B pencils work great for any sort of grass or basic shrubbery because of the texture that it gives off. The pencil does a lot of the work for you which is great.

I would say that the most bare essential tools would be a 12 set tin of drawing pencils in the medium range from around about 6H to about 4B or 6B. That is a good amount to get familiar with. I am a big fan of erasers so I will usually have kneaded erasers, regular white eraser, and the tuff stuff eraser stick which is like a mechanical pencil but with an eraser inside. Great for making small detail work. Blending stumps and drawing paper will also come in handy.

In one of my videos on "how to draw the mountains in the mist" I show in real time how to draw the water for that drawing. A little while back I did a texture for choppy water. Drawing the texture took me about an hour to just fill in a 4x6 drawing and ive been wanting to make a video to show off how to do that.

Fog is a repetitive process of using HB and 2B pencils or whichever you need. I will generally shade the entire area in and start erasing out cloud shapes. Then ill go inbetween them and darken some to make the fog come out and use the HB or a 2H to add in some shadows on the fog. Check out my mountains in the mist series. I have an entire video showing exactly how I do it.

I started with just a pencil when I was first learning how to draw. I used that for quite some time until I realized that there were more materials that I could use. The different materials help but they are not absolutely necessary to creating art. Ebay is where I get a lot of my supplies since they are pretty cheap on there.

I can relate to getting graphite on the side of my hand and on my pinky finger. That happened to me a lot when I was starting out. There is something out there called a smudge guard but I have never tried it so not sure how that will do. But some other ways to get around it is to use a slip sheet of paper or plastic film like DuraLar. Then rest your hand on that as you draw to prevent the smudging. I get around it now by not resting my hand on the paper. I have it slightly elevated.

I'm interested in the Kimberly 9xxb. the only reason I don't like using charcoal is that it doesn't erase well. graphite erases better. How well does the Kimberly 9 pencil erase? if it doesn't erase at all, might as well use charcoal

Depending on what you are drawing, there are different ways to hod it. 1. The writing grip: this is the way you would normally hold a pencil for everyday writing. it has a lot of control and for doing details 2. The underhand grip: With this you would pinch the pencil between your index and thumb and grip the rest of it with your pinky. this is great for keeping the pencil on its side creating thick texture. 3. loose grip: holding back on pencil to great loose shapes. great for sketching.

  • @TylersArtShack

  • @TylersArtShack
    @TylersArtShack11 жыл бұрын

Yes it does damage the paper and this is why I mention during the video to not press too hard because of that. Also erasing it out is almost impossible unless you have an electric eraser but that will do damage of its own :) I try not to do that but sometimes you need a smoother texture with a darker pencil which can be hard to do.

I tried the "first" burnishing effect, where you draw with the 4h and then the b one. In my case the area I colored with the 4h always gets "lost"/darkened when I apply a b-pencil. I tried various angles, various pressures, etc. but I never get an effect where the the 4h colored area stays light, like in your video. Also watched your first video on this, but it looks different.

  • @TylersArtShack

Yep, different papers have a significant effect on how a pencil will perform. That can work in your favor or completely ruin what you are trying to do.

It's only through your videos that I am learning...I had a question. .I live in india...nd it's difficult to get smudges for shading purpose where I live. .all I can get is a 12 set pencil box...since I'm a kinda beginner(wid no previous experience. .I just usd to draw as a 13 year old)...is this meagre equipment enough for a detailed work...like that in a landscape. .

Well that is also like saying there isn't much of a difference between 2B and 3B. There is only a slight variation. F pencils I believe are meant to be Fine point but not completely sure on that. I have never seen a use for them. And the H is like saying 1H but they just leave the one out. B is also like that as well.

Press hard on the 4h pencil until you pretty much glaze the paper, then go over it with the softer pencil. I could also be the type of paper, because the more fabrics and texture the paper has to it, is the more challenging 'burnishing' is going to be.
