Basic Hemstitching
A step-by-step tutorial showing how to hemstitch on the rigid-heddle loom. This process interlocks the warp and weft threads on handwoven fabrics so that they don’t unravel when you take the fabric off the loom. Master these two easy steps and the hemstitch will secure your fabric and add a beautiful detail at the beginning and end of your handwoven fabric.

This is the best, clearest, easiest to follow hemstitch tutorial I've found on KZread! Thank you for these clear and precise instructions. You included information so a brand new weaver can understand the purpose and process, and when and how I may want to use hemstitching. Thanks!
Love just started learning to weave and his instruction are so clear and easy to understand.
I don't know why he quit doing tutorials. he has a good voice
Clear and concise, which is what we all need! Thank you so much for this
Best hem stitch video I have found!! Ever easy to follow and reverse since I’m left handed. Thank you for making the video and sharing it!
This is the best and clearest teaching of hem stitching that I have seen and I have watched many. I finally get it and can go in both directions without contorting myself or the loom. Many many thanks!!
To those wondering why Darrin didn't make more vids, you can visit his website and there's a message about his having to deal with a cancer diagnosis in 2019 and then the pandemic. He doesn't say if he came down with cancer or someone close, but it would seem to have meant the end [for now?] of his continuing providing weaving tutorials. I sincerely hope he's made it through. His website and video channel had just started in "19 and are still available to view.

Thank you for such a clear explanation and excellent camera work! I have never been able to understand how to hemstitch from any other diagram, video, or demonstration. Your explanation was like a lightbulb in my brain. Again, thank you!
Thank you SO MUCH for this video... I started weaving with no other real fibre background and any sewing STRESSES me out... this is such a perfect simple explanation so I can get pieces off my loom.

It is so simple yet I needed the clarity and simplicity of your video to secure my brain so I can get to work on finishing my towels! Thank you thank you thank you! I will be subscribing and looking forward to whatever else you generously offer to those of us who are new (and clueless!) to weaving…
OMG, I love you! You cannot imagine how many videos I've watched, and how many instructions I've read -- and this is the first that makes sense to me. Thank you!
I've just started RH weaving after a 5 year break and this video is by far the clearest explanation of hemstitching I've found. I'm so glad I found your channel and the wonderful website and patterns! Thanks so much!
Thank you!! I knew from other videos how to finish the piece with a hem stitch but not how to start one. This is so clear. I'm a beginning weaver and really appreciate your instruction.
Just tried this hemstitching method yesterday! Thanks for sharing! This is really helpful!! ❤
You just saved my day,,,, thank you sooooo much 😊😊❤

Great video and explanation! I'd tried other videos without much success, so was so happy to find yours! It was really great! Thanks!!
Excellent video
I am a beginner weaver. As in, I don't know anything! I bought a beginner's pattern and a highly-recommended book on weaving. I was surprised that certain basic knowledge was taken for granted. Luckily I found this video - visually clear, simple and complete directions. All questions answered, and I've finished my first project! Will be following this channel for more tips and instruction - thank you!
Wow!!! This is so clear. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you! I am very new to weaving and, as others have said, this explanation is the clearest I have seen. (I have subscribed and might even get myself a rigid-heddle loom and return for further instructions.)
Great tutorial. Thank you

A bent tip needle works better than a straight tip.
Please do more videos 😊❤
Very good. Simple and easy to follow. How do you deal with the hem if you didn't use enough tail length. First time I heard about hem stitching at the beginning of the weave. I'll remember to do that next time. Today will be my first ever attempt to do this technique. Thanks

Thank you for this video! If I do this ending I do not have to knot at the end, right? This ending is like doing a knot? So the thread doesn’t come out
Love the way you explained the hem stitch. But when I tried to find it I couldn’t. Is it still available? And if so how do I find it.
I have always known this as blanket stitch.

The difference is in the tightening one needs to do to secure the woven edge. An embroidery blanket stitch is formed the same way, but generally is not tightened.
Can’t seem to find your website it takes me to a casino page ? Wanted to try your towels
Can you hem stitch off the loom
The website link takes me to some really dodgy place. Anyone know what has happened to the rigidheddleweaver site? Is it still live|?
Can someone share the towel pattern?
Greetings, Your link is not working to get to the pattern. Can you help?
How should I do it if I don’t want fringes

There are multiple ways to finish ends of weaving. If you don't want fringe, then you should hem the ends either with a sewing machine or by hand. 5/8", doubled works great.

Even if you're going to hem your woven cloth, hemstitching will secure the edge without needed machine sewing. I prefer sewing hems by hand and it's easy to turn under a hemstitched edge [fringe trimmed close] without fraying or using a sewing machine.
Can’t locate the pattern.
Your web address took me to a suspicious site. Are you still active?
