    I'm not sure if it was the aggressive torch pointing or the close up correction when I said 25 minutes for the second part of the break.. Its like you knew I got it wrong! but this really sank in! I've got a driving assessment tomorrow which is the first time driving a lorry since passing my test and this really helped! Im just getting started and try to insert my digital tachometer card into VDO tacho machine, I go through initial few questions then it starts flashing a message saying security breach 47 and pits my card back out! Ive tried looming for help but all anything says is “check the card” which isn’t v helpful. I only got the card about 3-4 weeks ago. Cheers for any help you can offer.

  • @BusandTruckTraining

    @BusandTruckTraining

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Fred, sorry for the late response. The first thing I would do is try another card in the machine to determine whether the machine or the card is at fault. If it is the card which it probably is you can return it and have it replaced at no cost to yourself as it is faulty. If you are returning it in Ireland to the RSA you will have to pay €45 initially which the RSA will then refund. You may drive 3 weeks without a card if it is faulty but you must keep a manual entry write down everything you do with times and duration. Driving 4 hours, rest 45 minutes etc.. Let me know how you get on

    Hi Martin, There is no maximum time as far as I am aware. You could take your 15 minute break after 3 hours and 14 minutes then do a minute driving and then take you 30 minute break. You could drive a minute and then take your 15 and then drive 3 hours and 14 minutes and take your 30 minute break and then drive for another 4.5 hours. There by driving 1 minute short of 9 hours with only a 30 minute break. This is a deep dive into tachograph lol

  • @revellien

    @revellien

    4 ай бұрын

    @@BusandTruckTraining EC561/2006 only defines one type of week and that is the Fixed week in effect Monday to Sunday. The “Fixed week” governs anything to do with Driving time - 2 x weekly increases, 56 hour max and the 90 hour fortnight (2 fixed week rule). A max of 3 Daily rest reductions are allowed between any weekly rest periods - the 2 daily driving increases from 9 to 10 hours are bound to the Fixed Week and crucially NOT between Weekly Rest periods. For example a driver could take off Thursday and Friday and drive 10 hours on Saturday and Sunday (if he didn’t drive 10 hours MON TUE or WED that is) and as a new Fixed week starts on the Monday he could drive 10 hours on the Monday and Tuesday and then take off Wednesday and Thursday. He is allowed to do this (in effect 4 x 10 hour drives on the bounce) as each pair of the periods of 10 hour driving fall in different Fixed weeks and are not related at all to when the weekly rest was taken.

    If you have not driven more than 4.5 hours then you do not have to take a break according to Tachograph legislation. You do still have to obey Wirking Tome Directive so yes you are correct. If you work between 6 and 9 hours you need to take a 30 minute break which can be split into 2 times 15 minute break.

    It is not illegal to have the TACHOGRAPH set to Rest or other work as its default setting. So every time you are not moving for more than 30 seconds out of every 60 seconds that minute will count as rest and not driving. This can really make a difference. Otherwise you will just have to judge it according to your working day or schedule.

    You can not drive for more than 4.5 hours without a 45 minute break. You cannot take an early break and then add the 2 hours onto your next driving session.
