isnt this permutations? If youve got to make a 4 letter word and youve got a total of 4 letters (be that aaaa or aabb or bbbb) youve always only got one combination. Am i not understanding something?

In permutations, the order matters. In combinations, the order doesn't matter.

In combination you have to only choose things..in permutation you have to choose and arrange them

Choosing 1 thing out of 4 four is the same as not choosing 1 thing out of 4 (which is the same thing as choosing 3 things out of 4)
