Congrats Marvin on finally being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame! Just wish you were still alive to receive your honor in person.

I thought I recognized "Joe Hill" when I caught this on TV, but I'm glad I was able to check. What an amazing story.

The three greatest men ever involved in Baseball: Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, and Marvin Miller. Period.

Curt Flood was one of the most courageous athletes since the great Jackie Robinson. For facing racism and for his challenge of the reserve clause. Flood was a sacrificial lamb for the betterment of players everywhere. It ruined his career making that great stand. Baseball players are in my opinion too overpaid. Yet, baseball owners brought the trouble on themselves by refusing to bargain in good faith. Had they not been selfish beyond reason, Pandoras box would have remained closed. Out of that box sprung a fortune that would have made King Midas green with envy.

What a great man!!

I think Marvin Miller misses the point totally. MLB is more for a social benefit instead of a financial business. In the 1922 U.S. Supreme Court Federal Baseball Club v. National League, the court ruled that MLB is exempted from antitrust law. My question is they were given the designation than do they need to make a profit. Do not they belong to society as a social good rather than for-profit business? My argument is a standard business is taxed and subjected to the antitrust laws. What makes MLB so special? They have fulfilled a social need in WW1, WW2, and the events of 911. Where are they when they are needed with COVID19 and protests in our country? They are missing a great opportunity to become part of the healing process instead they chose to be disdained.

This is NOT an argument. Untenable, if not excremental. What is this exactly? Some distorted oligarchic polyanna-cum-kumbaya thought process that openly disdains the players for making the money they deserve as an equitable portion of the overall revenues while dismissing entirely what the owners make -- an amount inaccessible to the public and probably the IRS? How can you calmly assert what you said in some sort of 'civic duty' characterization? Did you not understand what Marvin Miller is saying as he defines 'exploitation'? Did you not take the time to understand what the relevance of the Seitz decision was? Singling out (no pun intended) baseball as some cultural balm that is duty bound to have the players lay prostrate before the owners echoes the sugarplum promises of charlatans. Stop watching the Wizard of Oz and other fantasies. Brutal.
