    Pretty cool mate. I use sand instead of akadama as it is hard to find here.

    Thank you for sharing your passion of mosses with us. Your time and effort are greatly appreciated. As Rice husk charcoal is not easily found in the US, is it possible to use fine horticultural charcoal (hardwood)?

    Thank you for your comment. Horticultural charcoal (hardwood) can be substituted.

    Thank you for sharing your soil formula, if been looking for an anorganic mix. I'll try it out, it looks very promising, to work without getting mold, like my last tries. Im sure with springtails added, this could make a longlasting mossarium.

    I hope you find this helpful. Springtails are useful for fungus, but in Japan, it is not very acceptable to put insects inside a terrarium, and many people don't like it, so few people do it in Japan. It is a cultural difference.

    @@seiyokoke So i gathered all the stuff its 2Parts washed akadama 2Parts Vermiculite 1Part Charcoal and 1Part sived earth, little bit of sand aswell. Iput springtails anyway, i like how lively they walk over wet lava rocks. I also put some Ficus scandens, Peperomia prostrata and Selaginella unicata, hopefully they will grow.

    Hello, a few questions if you please. 1. do you have to use Akadama in the mix? 2. Is there an alternative to Akadama that can be used maybe pumice? 3. the Peat moss you show look like little pebbles or its just the camera making it look like that. 4. The Burned rice hulls, is there something that can be used other than the Burned rice hulls?

  • @seiyokoke

    1. I would use red ball as the base soil for the moss terrarium. Fine-textured soil that has been sterilized and is free of organic matter is best. 2. Pumice stone, finely ground and powdered, would be fine. 3. In the video, peat moss was a little coarse-grained. Now I am using a finer one. 4. The rice husks are added in the role of sterilization and disinfection. You can use other hulls as well.

    Hi, May I know if the addition of vermiculite and charcoal rice hull as per your recommendation for the base soil will also be suitable for growing Fittonia in a terrarium? Thanks

    Best thing is to give it a try. Fittonia will like it if you use osmosis water mixed with rain water. Clean the roots to avoid mold before planting to a terrarium. Some moss in the terrarium will hep too against fungus/mold. This soil can work well i think but you can make a bit experimentation too to find the perfect mix.

    Hi.. I have Vermiculite, Zeolite, substrate for cacti and succulents, and peat. May I ask if you could tell me if I can make some ratio for a closed type of terrarium? Thank you very much

  • @seiyokoke

    @seiyokoke

    Жыл бұрын

    A ratio of 1 vermiculite, 1 zeolite, 0.2 peat, and substrate for cacti:02 might be good. Try it with that once and see. Adding soil that contains nutrients may cause mold growth if grown in closed type containers for a long period of time, so I recommend trying this ratio and seeing if it causes any problems.

    Miguel Campi san, In Japan, It can buy on Amazon or through internet shopping, but in other countries It may not be able to find this kind of fine Akadama soil. There are some Japanese companies that can ship Akadama soil overseas, so please look for them.
