We want to say the reason why Pidgeot was chosen on the booster covers was because of how Pidgeotto was a big member of Ash's team in the anime, and because how common people would use them in Gen 1

I blame Base Set 2 for confusing me as a kid into not understanding what different booster sets were lol The 2 players pack was awesome though! The CD didn’t work on my dad’s computer, but the stationery store we got it from had bundled it with some extra packs for added spice. Good times.

Metroid 2 is way too underrated. Might be nostalgia, but I always preferred the OG music over AM2R and Returns.

If it weren’t for the 2, I could absolutely see that. I don’t personally remember seeing a lot of Base 2 packs in stores. We may have been on the downslope of collecting by then. I really only remember seeing Fossil packs everywhere

I love the reviews on old pokemon cards, makes me remember when i used to play em back then... Memories... Also i'm surprised you used Metroid II music...well... "Music" for the video, but i get why heh

Classic cards > new cards and I won’t hear otherwise 😌

As a 1993 born millennial (am I still a millennial?) I was a Pokémon fanatic including the TCG. I remember spending $50+ CAD on jungle decks both locally in western Canada or in random places like on Vacation in California. I even got a fake booster pack at a sketchy store in Anaheim which I didn’t even realize was a scam at the time.

As someone who wanted to experience the nostalgia of my old cards mainly because I love the artworks on them, base set 2 is a godsend. I got all the base set 2 cards that where in the original base set, and also bought the remaining cards that where missing from the original set. This was back in 2016, so I got them pretty cheap compared to nowadays prices, and especialy compared to the original base set.

@Paraspectre I totally agree. I know when I was little I was so upset that I missed out on all the cool evos and just got a Clefairy...

Regarding the colorless Rare cards in the pre-made decks: I think the thought process for these cards was that they would be far easier to include in other decks, making them more valuable to a child who is limited in the types they can run due to a limited collection. If you only include matching-type rares like in the Poliwrath deck, it is a lot more likely for a child to ignore it unless they are already invested in using water types. Chansey and Wigglytuff, though, can just be splashed into any deck and so you get more value (ie deck-building options) with them. I think this also applies to the trainer cards as well; even as a child I understood how absolutely cracked Computer Search was, and bought extra copies of the Psych Out deck just to finish my playset of that one card. I think I ended up gifting the extra copies of other cards to friends or my younger brother.

I guess, yeah. To me, that kinda makes the decks less special. Not that they’re these powerhouse decks to begin with, but I just miss the type specific ones from the other sets.

Edit: I am likely wrong iirc - Base set 2 was released to fix some localization/translation errors from Base Set/Jungle

If I’m seeing the timeline right, Ash had released his Pidgeot by this point. So maybe. But he never owned any of the other three 🤷🏻‍♂️

When doing the top 10 pricing list. Why do you say "about" before listing the price when it's an exact listing to the cent value?

I'd argue Raichu isn't popular, but actually one most overlooked and shunned. Nobody evolves Pikachu except Lt. Surge who has a male inferieority complex and would of course not keep a baby Pikachu for the bigger and badder Riachu.

@@Paraspectre Sort of the reverse of the Raichu problem, everyone hates Pidgey so much becuase you run into so many in the games and it's basic and weak, so nobody wants to hold onto one to get to Pidgeot. Although they do level up quickly in the games and is an early boss for your party to wreck stuff.

I always wanted to see a holo beedrill card. It was such a basic looking card it would of looked alot better as a holo. I also wish they would of made butterfree a holo rare it was always a pretty card to me. I like it so much I bought a legendary collection reverse holo butterfree because it shares the same artwork as the jungle card.

I think the big disconnect between you and the “meta” is that your main play experience is the GB game. You don’t have to deal with everyone running 4 energy removal + 4 super energy removal and 4 energy attacks being impossible to pull off.

Yeah, kinda weird. They were easy to get, yet specific to get. If you never bothered with the starter decks, you’d never see one

Back in the day I asked in wizards Pokémon chat why my favorite Pokémon, Oddish, want in the set and their answer was that between fossil and bs2 and team rocket all 150 Pokémon would be available, but I wasn't happy with that answer because there was a difference between the rehistoric and dark Pokémon

@@Paraspectre if I had to guess they probably didn't want the set to be exactly 150 cards for whatever reason but you know what they could have done for base set too and I would have actually collected it? They could have put the fucking vending machine cards in a set right here right between fossil and Team Rocket

Base set 2 was such a disappointment for me, that I starting getting Japanese cards of the newer sets
