Dr Adel Bondok Anatomy Teaching Videos
Link to the book: drive.google.c...
The LAST SLIDE is the most important slide (foramina of the skull and their contents).
The video describes the anatomy of the base of the skull from outside and inside the cranial cavity:
1. Norma basalis externa. Note that:
a. Incisive foramen (fossa): transmits nasopalatine nerve and sphenopalatine vessels.
b. Greater palatine foramen: transmits greater palatine nerve and vessels
c. Lesser palatine foramina: transmit lesser palatine nerve and vessels
2. Norma basalis interna (cranial cavity):
a. Anterior cranial fossa.
b. Middle cranial fossa.
c. Posterior cranial fossa.
3. Foramina of the skull and the structures passing through each foramen.

Hi Dr Bondok, thanks for all your videos, they are great learning for my upcoming exams :). Just had a question, did you mean to have "greater palatine vessels" instead of "sphenopalatine vessels" when refering to the incisive foramen and greater palatine foramen contents? Thanks!!
@AdelBondok
2 жыл бұрын
You are most welcome Edward. The sphenopalatine vessels and nasopalatine nerve pass through the incisive foramen. The greater palatine vessels pass through the greater palatine foramen to supply the palate then pass forward toward the incisive foramen to anastomose with the sphenopalatine artery. On the other hand, the sphenopalatine vessels and the nasopalatine nerve leave the nose through the incisive foramen to supply the palate.
@AdelBondok
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Edward: I watched the video and found that there is an error in the text of the slide at 2:13. The greater palatine foramen transmits only the greater palatine vessels and nerve. It doesn't transmit the sphenopalatine vessels.

How are you doing , professor I am amir battia , a medical student at University Of Idlib . I want to ask you about the contents of foramen lacerum after birth ; is it only filled by cartilage or are there other contents ?

I am fine, Amer. Foramen lacerum is closed by cartilage, which is pierced by emissary vein.

Dr bondock, I have a question about foramen lacerum , how can it transmits ICA with the sympathetic plexus around it with other structure although it is closed with cartilage ? ,, Much thanks to you 💝💕💕
@AdelBondok
2 жыл бұрын
That is really a good question. It reflects how intelligent you are. To make it clear: @ The foramen lacerum is closed inferiorly by cartilage through which passes emissary vein. @ The carotid canal ends at foramen lacerum. Through the carotid canal passes the ICA surrounded by sympathetic plexus forming the deep petrol nerve. Therefore the structures passing through roof of foramen lacerum are: 1. ICA 2. Sympathetic fibers forming the petrosal nerve. 3. Emissary vein passing through the whole length. Really love your thoughts 💕💕💕💕💕

Again: Foramen acerum Carotid and pterygoid canals open into it. It transmits: 1. Internal carotid artery in the carotid canal. 2. Deep petrosal nerve (from sympathetic plexus around ICA) 3. Nerve of pterygoid canal (deep petrosal + greater petrosal) It is closed inferiorly by fibrocartilage. It transmits emissary vein from cavernous sinus to pharyngeal plexus.
