Bartram Trail Day 1 - Back on the Appalachian Trail
Bartram Trail Day 1 -
10 miles
Cheoah Bald to Ledbetter Creek (Started at Stecoah Gap on the Appalachian Trail)
This trail goes from Cheoah Bald in North Carolina to Russell Bridge in Georgia. I'm going Southbound on this hike.
Bartram Trail Day 1: @marcyjhousel and I started our hike at Stecoah Gap and hiked 5.5 miles on the Appalachian Trail. It was so great to be back on the AT and meeting 2022 hikers.
Going Southbound the Bartram trail starts at Cheoah Bald on the AT and I didn’t realize till I was here again that I had missed this view on my 2020 AT thru hike because it had been raining so it was nice to get a beautiful view this time. My expectations on this first day were it would be easier hiking down but the descents on this trail are so steep and it was difficult to keep from slipping at times. There were also several water crossings and a few downed trees the first day.
By the time I made it to camp right before dark I was absolutely exhausted and I blame it on being pretty out of shape but then again this trail seems pretty tough right off the bat.

You're my favorite to follow on hiking adventures! William Bartram is my nature hero! I have his book "Travels of William Bartram". I've been wanting to hike the Bartram trail, maybe someday.
Nice to follow along with you on the trail again! Side note: I like your bangs! :-)

Glad to see you back. Old metal pieces reminded me of the stills I would find while doing forestry work. Unfortunately the revenooers had found them first 😁

You are beaming! The trail looks great on you.
Enjoy your time out there and stay safe, 😘
Awesome beautiful vlogging, hiking and scenery, all the very best.
Hey, there, Gretchen! Good to see you back on trail! I hope that you have a wonderful hike. I will be back in Hot Springs to finish my final 270 miles of the AT north to Atkins, Va. I have been having problems with my right foot since last spring's 275 mile section. I hope that it gets better and not worse. I stand all day at work. Walking is much better for the feet. Take care and God bless!

@@HikingwithBraids thank you!!!! 😊
watching this it totally reminds me of the red river gorge in Kentucky
Metal pieces possibly from an old still?
Was it hard to get on the new trail instead of staying on the AT?
How do you keep your devices charged while you’re backpacking?

@@HikingwithBraids sounds like fun. Be safe. 🤙
Why do so many thru-hikers go to do a trail with someone but then hike separately like you and Marcy did? I’m curious as to why that happens so often? Why not hike together? Isn’t that the point of “doing it together”?

We don't hike the same pace and I prefer hiking and stopping at my own leisure but it's nice having someone at camp though.
Glad your back on trail 👣 and enjoying your time where you belong!
