Barry Windham - Why I Quit WWF & U.S. Express But Mike Rotunda Kept Wrestling

Ойын-сауық

Barry Windham discusses why he quit WWF but the U.S. Express continued with Mike Rotunda & Dan Spivey. Stream New Shoot Interviews 📺 TitleMatchNetwork.com
WWE Hall of Famer Barry Windham talks about being on the road for 95 days in a row without a break. He and Mike Rotunda were in Baltimore when Rotunda snapped, left to for the airport and went home without warning.
Barry was left without a partner. So at the next TV taping, Windham exploded on George Scott, Chief Jay Strongbow & Pat Patterson backstage and ended up quiting WWF himself.
What Windham didn't know is that Mike eventually came back to his senses and returned to work. Unfortunately for Barry, he left Vince McMahon and didn't call back, instead opting to return to Jim Crockett Promotions via Magnum TA.

I always thought Barry Windham was one of the BEST wrestlers/performers in professional wrestling. He had a fierceness and a intensity that was so bad *ss. Yet he always was decent and very good with fans. 🕷The Widow-Maker🕷 gimmick was okay but Barry was better in the NWA IMO. He is a true LEGEND! Kids back then actually thought Dan Spivey was Barry Windham. It was adults telling kids that Windham changed his name to Danny Spivey to wrestle in the WWF. Funny how Windham mentions cloning him with Spivey at the end of the video. I knew they were not the same wrestler and I was a kid back then. NWA/WCW were Flair and the four Horsemen. Dedicated fans but 2nd fiddle to WWF back then. I think Vince knew the WCW/NWA wrestlers were just as good and sometimes even better than WWF wrestlers.

I vividly remember this period. Mid 85 - early 86 I was becoming a dedicated wrestling fan picking my favorites and Windham was an instant favorite. I was a huge Rock n Roll Express fan and the US Express kinda represented a wwe version of them only with bigger guys. Out of the two Windham shined just a little more than Rotunda. So when BW disappeared abruptly (from a kid's perspective) and Spivey came in, I didn't like it at all. I recognized Spivey though as Starship Eagle from NWA Jim Crockett Promotions. Next thing I know BW is showing up on TBS JCP. So it looked like a trade or something at the time 😄😄😄. Hearing this story fills in the gaps and makes a lot of sense.

Greed, you can't travel and work that many days straight like that. It was the days when the boss didn't care as long as the money kept rolling in. Next comes drugs, then comes death. Some survived awhile. Vicious very painful cycle where money isn't the only or most important thing that matters. If McMahon is crazy enough to work guys that many days straight he certainly is crazy enough to do or try to do anything.
